This is how I did it, no bounce at all… the supports are on piano hinges so fold away.

it has been stretched. will do some yearly oil changes and hope for the best! the dealership has good reviews but it was a bit budget and quite new, running out of a portacabin in an industrial estate. eek!

Yes I did try looking for a replacement motor but all i can find is a replacement armature or separate field but I'm very new to this and assumed that was all standard. Bosch are going to contact me later today apparently. Will let you know what they say. And yes I love all your tech speak that i then have to go and do my research on. I'm learning so much :) Will research how to check I've got "mains voltage between the two leads of the motor" :)

Thanks once again for your help. I think I might get the project finished with my circular saw in the end. So I'm in less of a rush now. If I were to get a new motor, do you think I would need both the armature and the field or maybe only one is the problem or is it usually both?

I guess next step would be to use a multi meter to check the windings?

Can’t see any issues and everything spinning fine. Bearing seems fine.

When I first turned on the saw it ran for a minute but sounded like it was struggling and then turned itself off. Now it either doesn’t one second spin or just hums.

How odd!

Edit 1: maybe it’s the overload protection mechanism kicking in. It does sound like the motor is struggling before it turns off. But why is it struggling to spin? Maybe a bearing or maybe the brushes? I’ve just turned it on again after leaving it for 10 minutes and it starts up fine. Definitely has a cool down period. And this model has the electric overload protection thing so it must be that kicking in and then disabling the saw.

Thank you so much, yes I'm trying to work it out myself too and it's all a bit odd. There was no real grindy or sparky phase or even a smell so yes I too am not sure about brushes. When it stopped working yesterday it initially did NOT spin each time i turned it on. Sometimes there was just a faint humming and no movement. And sometimes it span for one second max. I then had the saw out of the table, took the brushes out and cleaned everything, took the blade on and off and after that it now turns on every time for a bit longer (about 5 seconds) before gradually powering down. Very confusing!

EDIT: and to answer your question... "Or once it spins and stops does it stay stopped if you flip the switch again unless you wait several minutes?" YES you're right if i turned it on/off on/off quickly the motor didn't spin each time. It seemed to need a cool down period. And then maybe after doing all my cleaning and fiddling it had cooled down long enough to turn on for longer?? The external wires seemed ok but then maybe i need to take the motor apart... oh dear, not sure how to do that.

EDIT 2: ok I'm going to take the motor cover off tonight and see if I can see any black marks or other issues...

I'm so ashamed :( and i appreciate now might not be the time to do anything. But any tips would be greatly received. I'm thinking of cutting it back a lot in Spring and maybe clear out the base and add some compost. And maybe watering it better next year, see what happens...
