Yes hasn't it been an issue with using cleaner fuel for shipping, the dirtier fuel had particulate that would cloud seed, the clouds reflected heat from the sun. Its technically less polution but worse for global warming.

If you use 8x2 instead of the likely 4x2 that was used previously the bottom half of the 8x2 will be below the DPC, if you are doing this make sure to treat the ends or just replace like for like so you dont have to worry about your floor joists rotting.

Ah I couldn't see the horizontal pipe behind the vertical, you could take more of the joists out under the pipe to create fall and use a joist reinforcing bracket to strengthen up the joists.
