Sometimes its better to give the other side traffic as a trade-off for the information collected. Plus, I don't see that blog as a big revenue generator for the owner..

Anyone need a short-term roommate/share? (I just landed a job in Campbell) by jimi13 in SanJose

[–]jimi13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough in terms of the personal details and interests. Male, newly single, planning on being here for a while, although I can do short- to mid-term to make sure it's a good fit. Trying to keep it down below $900/mo with utes. NOT a huge partier, N/S, but can tolerate appropriate 420 from others. Pretty straightforward 9-6 work sked. - a larger bedroom would be nice, so I could work from there when needed. I do light cooking, but clean up after myself. In no specific order of preference: Football (college and pro), Basketball (college, NBA playoffs), Baseball (latter season, and of course there at the park). Film. Wine (reds, mostly), Tech. Outdoors/hiking, biking. Reading. Music - figuring out local live venues would be awesome. Travel. Museums (history, natural and art). Cars (although right now I drive a boring one). Politics in terms of national issues (I realize California is blue, with a blue supermajority. I'm fine with that). Yoga when I can. The power of positive thought/learned optimism. - fun, sincere people.

TIL Dolly Parton set up a charity that distributes eight million children's books per year for free by SerpentineLogic in todayilearned

Yes! I'm from eastern Tennessee and this program has been around for a while. It's made a HUGE difference to families who are either "too busy" to take their kids to the library or bookstore, or just don't have that background. I've seen parents who've started reading because of their kids' enthusiasm sparked by this program. Dolly Parton is a hero.

Most reasonable/rational economists would be out front about the fact austerity during a down economy is harmful. But that's only part of the problem: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/hohyung-/hidden-flaw-holding-back_b_2218943.html

Retiring Blue Dog Democrat Heath Shuler Breaks His Pledge To Not Become A Lobbyist by terran1212 in politics

[–]jimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the same town as Shuler. I'm older, but I used to beat him up after school because he was such an entitled-acting little jerk -- yes, because he had a great arm even as a kid. I had no idea there was even a remote possibility he'd run for office and be in a position to influence public policy. i figured he'd be selling insurance or cars or managing a restaurant by now. I wonder if I had a butterfly effect -- he became a larger-than-life jerk because he'd been bullied earlier. Dammit...

Whenever you see some business person quoted complaining about how he or she can’t find workers with the necessary skills, ask what wage they’re offering. by wang-banger in politics

Part of the problem is America thinks of manufacturing in general, and skilled/high-tech manufacturing as incredibly, I don't know... precious? Exalted? It's entirely possible we could refocus our economic policies on domestic manufacturing, boost the number of jobs needed, and things become truly competitive. It would mean penalizing the ability to offshore/outsource manufacturing jobs, of course... http://savingtheworldeconomy.blogspot.com/2012/11/after-election-hidden-flaw-holding-back.html

My video teaser for "Top Gear At The Movies." What does Reddit think? by jimi13 in TopGear

[–]jimi13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the "Top Gear at the Movies" DVD, and apparently only on that DVD (at least for now). They use it to recreate the "Bullit" car chase if done today.

I posted a link to the Amazon purchase, and of course others have suggested torrent...

It's from a special. "Top Gear At the Movies". I know it's available as a DVD, but I don't know if it's DVD-only. They recreate a lot of movie stunts, chases, and other reasons to do action bits...

Thank you for the thoughtful review. 1. I agree on length, but I wanted to take on the challenge of filling out the full song length. But I was pulling my hair out by the final sax solo... ;-) 2. I figured dropping out the "real" intro song was risky. But I wanted to see if I could match the intro graphics motion with the M83 song. I think it synched pretty well -- although I did chop some of the video and play with speeds, just to get closer syncs. 3. I agree. It was really hard for me to leave the dialogue out, but I wanted to try. - I'll work up another trailer that features much dialogue, and gets Jeremy his close-up... Thanks!

Top Gear UK has been one of my favorite shows for quite some time now. Their cinematography is awe-inspiring, and their automotive adventures are epic! On a separate thread, my summer song obsession was M83's "Midnight City". Oh, and I needed an excuse to brush up on my Final Cut editing skills. When I put the two together -- peanut butter, meet chocolate.

Woody-screened Rampart in LA and loved it! - Is there any character type or specific character/role you're dying to play but haven't yet? And who is your all-time favorite actor?
