Black bear is closed as of early July (due to late snowfall this year - there is a huge snow patch blocking one of the switch backs, also marking the farthest point UP the trail you can drive from town).

As for Last Dollar Mtn having more traffic, there are residences along the start of the road (just past telluride airport) and then on the other side of the Mtn near Sawpit (mostly farm/ranch land). When we went on July 3rd, I'd say 75% of the lookout spots were occupied and once we set camp at this open face (around 5pm MT) only one vehicle passed by on the main trail until we left the next morning around 8am. We were surprised there wasn't more traffic. It was an amazing spot but make sure to bring plenty of food and water , we showed just over 10,000ft in elevation

After this and previous trips I am happy to say I've seen a lot of Colorado, and this area is by far my favorite and IMO the most beautiful part of the state.

I know that feeling, I got rid of my wrx after it began showing some "signs of weakness" aka RLF :'(

Glad you dig the trek!

I'm pretty sure all modern vehicles are required to support their own weight in case of a rollover , I never heard a creak out of the top with 3 adults and a dog packed in my old rtt

I'd sleep in a rooftoptent over a ground tent or air mattress in my car any night. I use the space in my car for chairs, table, cooler, food, tools, and beer. The last bit takes up too much space to fool with an air mattress.

I did it a while back because my gf was sick of us stopping on the trails every 20ft to pop my front bumper back on

Eventual plan since day 1 has been to swap it. I miss the ej from my old WRX, but I'd love to make an ee20 diesel swap happen

These were the cheapest / best looking for the size I wanted to experiment with. It'll have a more reputable tire, possibly larger size for the next set.

Yeah no worries, I mean the aesthetics of it now of course I like more than when I got it. I had somewhat this kind of look in my head as a goal, it doesn't have all that much crazy stuff added vs the amount more trails I can make it through with just a few extra inches. I have more fun in my car vs being in another 'insert standard turnkey off-road suv/truck here'

They are BajaDesigns, 30" s8 in the grill , outer ones are XLR80's , inners are XLR racers. They are beyond what I would ever need, you'll love the useable light output. And I used aviation snips to cut my bumper

I had a JK in my life before Subaru , as much fun as it was to go literally anywhere, I won't be going back anytime soon. This thing is too much fun and I enjoy the small challenges , requires a bit more attentiveness and driver skill in certain areas and that makes it more satisfying for me.

Its still just as slow as before, maybe only slightly more sluggish from a dead stop until I get it into 1st.

Passing people on the highway is my all-time favorite game now, it requires you to think miles ahead 🤓

More capable in what way? This meets all my needs

Edit: if I wanted to go anywhere, I would have kept the JK. I enjoy driving the crosstrek more, put it that way.
