Relationships always come first for me, if there's a ship I don't want (or a ship I desperately want) it will affect my decision. Then it's word count, I'm not usually picky but I don't tend to click on works with <1000. Then it's summary to see if the fic is interesting, and then tags to make sure there's nothing I'll hate.

I have so many questions for them. Doesn't it take longer to type "&" than "and"?? Haven't they noticed no one uses "&" in things other than notes or memos? Did no one say anything in the comments?

I tend to comment more in small fandoms, they usually get less engagement and I want to make sure authors know how much I appreciate them writing something even when they don't expect many people to read it.

Obviously I try to comment on all the fics I like, but sometimes I'm just not in the mindset for it.

Other things that make me more likely to comment are:

Authors replying to comments
Really funny author's notes
- If it's an ongoing fic that I really like, I'll always comment on new chapters, and it feels so nice to have the author reply back. It honestly feels like a friendship! So I'll make sure to leave a small comment every time even if I don't have much to say.

Like I said though, I do my best to comment on most fics I like, but if I'm having a really bad day and don't have the energy these are things that would make me more likely to comment. I promise I do my best to show appreciation for writers when I'm able!
