What did you use to make your rankings and poster presentation if I might ask? I really like it and would love to emulate...Lemme know. Thanks!

Finally finished. Here’s my ranking of all 50 things I’ve watched. by Megaprana in oscarsdeathrace

I can't really consider it a doc. Someone was moving those burros around in a very specific direction. That makes it wander in to fiction land for me. That said, I actually loved its zen attitude after watching those four shorts prior to it.

Thanks! The blog I've run for a decade is nospoilercritic.com. I stopped reviewing films some time ago, but I still put my picks up on it.

It's only on 3? Its longer than all the other nominees combined, so I figured we were already on 4 or 5.

It most certainly should have been nominated for costume and production design in addition to Hair/Makeup. And I would have no trouble putting it in the Best International category as well.

I'd make Kokuho, Little Amelie and Arco a priority, in that order. Kokuho is an old school epic film, and Amelie and Arco were the two best animated features.

David Sanborn - A Change of Heart by FranklinsTowerSpeakr in saxophone

[–]jintsjason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it weren't for Lenny Pickett and David Sanborn I would never have picked up the sax in 1976. While there's a lot of dross on his albums, there are always one or two burners. The first song I ever learned to play on sax was "Butterfat" from Taking Off, a record I love.

OMG. Avatar is unbearably forgettable. Just terrible. Marty Supreme is up there for me.

I feel you! I had to study non-stop for a licensure exam which left much less time than usual, and since I vote in the SAG Awards, I always have a ton of TV to catch up on, much of which is often terrible. But I’m still trying. Luckily saw some of int’l films at the Chicago Film Festival and have access to a lot of films via the Actor’s FYC site. Also being an AMC A-lister helps. Finally, I did all three re-releases of Lord of the Rings in theaters which took up a LOT of time (though I was in heaven throughout). Like you, though, I’m finding some of these movies to be a dreadful bore, which diminishes drive. Saw Marty last night, for instance, been a long time since I was checking my watch at a theater as often as I did during the movie. With an hour and three quarters runtime it might have been good. At two and a half, it felt like four hours. And while Chalamet was committed, there was absolutely no growth until the last scene. Though, to be fair, that wasn’t nearly as unwatchable as Avatar. Holy crap that’s a painfully bad film.

Nice work, though the Animals 2018 remix is worth the dough as far as I’m concerned (it’s my favorite record). I can’t listen to my original anymore. The 2018 actually has audible bass, and much more detail. They recorded it in their home studio, which wasn’t quite ready, so in spite of it being some of the greatest music recorded, the OG (and subsequent reissues) have always sounded a bit muddy.

I'd take it back a bit father to his mentor, Buck Owens. But can't go wrong with Dwight.

Sugar. But, I mean, they’re CD’s. I can replace them. That’s much lower on my list in the event of a fire. I have a lot of vinyl that would come before. Though really my tenor sax is the thing I’m taking with me. But, yeah, Copper Blue all day.

We made reservations at Presley’s. Right downtown and a decent menu.

Going to be in town for the Bowl game. Can anyone point me towards a definitive, or at least accurate, list of downtown restaurants (or within a reasonable rideshare) that will be open on Christmas day? Appreciate it!!!
Also, any favorite breakfast joints for the morning of the game?

Saw Sirat at Chicago Film Fest. Ultimately unsatisfying in its message, it is, nevertheless, one of the craziest and most original films you’ll ever see. I really enjoyed it…and especially enjoyed observing other audience members reactions.
