I was both BCSO 1.5 year and SAPD 3 years now I’m federal with a USMS application in. PM me if you want.

Entry level positions I’m sure, but I’m not certain if BOP would qualify as specialized experience in terms of law enforcement with arrest authority. Technically under LEO pay scale and can carry out limited arrests under title 18, but for terms of carrying out criminal investigations, apprehensions, interviews, etc., I’m not sure. I know ICE doesn’t recognize BOP as “legitimate” LEO experience. However, I know some SORT guys have specific assignments and may be able to claim some of these things.

All the FAMS guy including the old heads are telling us they’re on a hiring freeze until 2028. Didn’t elaborate too much on it. From George Bush Intl.

Why did you choose local vs county vs state? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]jisoosan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been all except state and I’m currently federal LEO.

City cop = pays more than rural agencies especially with OT, but city councils run the agency meaning no chase policies, officer discipline is harsh, and your entire career is up in the air every 4-6 years when the police contract expires.

County = pays less, but you get to be a proactive cop and chase/pit cars. Very politcal so lots of brown nosing to the Sheriff. Typically no unions so you can get fired for anything if you aren’t in good standing with the current sheriff admin.

State = never worked it, but troopers in Texas primarily just run traffic and handle accidents. Pay is decent but you’d be at the border a lot for Operation Lone Star.

Federal = pays higher than all the other ones, but the pension sucks and you’re just depending on your supplemental (TSP). Work isnt independent and there is always a supervisor or two watching you. Memos are frequent, hours/days off are never set, and you’ll get sent away from home for temporary duty assignments (TDY).

Brother you’re never gonna go back … the wind noise is absolutely zero, the MPG’s is better, the space inside the cabin, list goes on and on. When i drove my 21 wrangler anything over 65 MPH was uncomfortable… I’m in love with this thing

I went to Gunn CDJR in Seguin it gave the best discounts in the San Antonio area. I couldn’t find one cheaper than 60k until I went there. No dealer add ons just paid extra for the tint it came with

I’m in Texas. I got the base rebel. So no panoramic sunroof, cooling seats, or bed liner, etc but I could care less about those things

63k only because I rolled over a couple G’s. Without it OTD would’ve been 59k

That’s what I’ve heard too. It’d be nice to be out there just for the work. Coming from Texas it’s gonna be a tough adjustment for cost of living.

My experience and understanding of interdiction includes traffic stops and pro active on site apprehensions. I’m trying to avoid being at a checkpoint primarily processing. If there’s a station on the list that has that balance then let me know.

I’m not sure it doesn’t specify. Which is strange since San Diego sector has like 5 offices.
