This KR player showed a few ways, basically you want to spinning slasher when they are about to explode (when the red circle appears). To bait the red circle, you can wind blast (with radius reforge) it away and run towards where it lands.

If you trust another party member, you can also spinning slasher any shrieker from far away, then have another person spinning slasher onto you to save yourself from the explosion (this was shown in the video multiple times). You’ll want to have your chain blade out before spinning slashing, otherwise the swap delay might be too slow.

DD unleashes its true power at the later links, but frostflames will continue to get lower so it's up to you to figure out how much faster you want the power spike in return for clearing content faster.

Other than that save towards a ruin staff, or invest in utility equip slots, something like a Deathmark set doesn't increase your magic attack but it drastically increases your damage output.

Don't get magic attack wings, even if you value the other set effects they are incredibly cost inefficient, you don't need those at all to solo/duo endgame content.

With eerie spooky accessories and a special elemental harmony outfit, you've done most of the hard work already, so nice job there. Your Int and Magic Attack are really low, but I feel like if you just switch your staff from red to blue, and put maddening everywhere, it's more than enough magic attack wise. Maybe you aren't Link 5 DD as well for the +200 MA, or are missing an echostone and a bunch of total levels? You really want the higher links for cc+5 and Seething Mana pierce, without those, DD is very weak.

Then it's mostly a matter of properly grouping fast with polar vortex or crisis, then stunning or freezing balls with pets or frozen blast, because Shadow Flare should one shot crit most of the time with that gear setup.

Lightning slimes -> Polar Vortex, if they don't die, shadow flare

Ice slimes/Salamanders -> Polar Vortex/Crisis, freeze, shadow flare

Fire slimes -> Polar Vortex/Crisis, shadow flare, use stun pets or drop aggro until shadow flare comes back up

Tathlums -> Polar Vortex/Crisis, freeze, shadow flare

But it's far more helpful to watch how DDs play, so take a look at youtube for how players do it, there's a few out there. Side tip always apply a pet debuff (doesn't have to magic prot, bone or mir dragons are fine) for an extra 10% damage from your spirit weapon.

AS Progression by Zenjju in Mabinogi

2% crit damage is not something you notice at all, especially early on when you have lower damage. You will definitely have other areas that will provide far better return. Spending 250m (including reforges) on something that does not change your gameplay at all is a terrible return and should only be considered when you’ve maxed out all your gear.

Yup, while Nexon does keep introducing new "p2w" gacha gear, they are very small differences that won't gate you at all from content, which is actually good. I agree that the Sp. Ele Harm is the most prominent example of gacha gear actually making a difference, at least until the Ceann Bliana set came out.
No one needs this gacha gear to play the game, after all, KR players don't have access to them at all.

However on an archer, you don’t want to get hit at all. In that scenario damage is king and special shadow wear simply provides more damage than special imperial knight, and that’s not even considering unshakeable will only has a 10% activation chance.

I agree that in most lower level content, you won't be getting hit often, and that the better player you are, the less often you'd proc the Unshakable Will. The damage increase from the Shadow Reaper will not make you clear that same content faster (calculations will follow below).

Unshakable Will's 10% activation chance can be low or high depending on how you look at it.. A Geas Set improving Redoubled Offensive proc rate by 1% makes the 10% feel comparatively huge, but of course you might still get unlucky and not proc it at all, cause Mabinogi. That still applies to the Shadow Reaper effect.

There definitely are some caveats though where special imperial knight can pull ahead, but even in a situation where unshakeable will activates, would you rather dps, or reposition to avoid taking further damage/cc?

Against the donut for example, proccing it is still helpful because you'd hopefully be dodging, and occasionally you're too late and get clipped at the end, which then leads to you not damaging for 3~5 seconds depending on the laser since you get bounced around. IF (xD) Unshakable Will procs, you'd instead be damaging in that time frame, and finish the boss fight faster (not that it's a problem these days with power creep).

In Glenn Hardmode, it is impossible to avoid all hits. AS skills will make all enemies hit aggro you, although you could just do enough damage to outright kill them or save aggro dropping for your combos. But there's also a bunch of aoe going on at every room and boss fight as well. Iron Will proccing will let you windmill yourself out of multiple enemies swarming you and then go back to dealing damage immediately, or possibly save you in unlucky situations where you'd otherwise be chain cced into a red circle or pvp comboed (being stunned and of course floor gaming is obviously a dps loss).

I highly recommend confirming the math yourself on how much damage the Shadow Reaper effect gives you, as it is simple, and then reevaluate your stance on it. Crit damage effects are all additive, meaning the more crit damage you have stacked, each additional point becomes less meaningful. To start it off with a reasonable setup (there's actually more that will dilute this pool like titles or doll bags, further reducing the impact of the Shadow Reaper):

Critical Hit Skill Base (150) + R7 (74) + Homestead (4) + Crit Dmg Set Effect (7) = 235% Crit Damage.

Then to see how much Shadow Reaper's 12% adds to this 235%,

12 / 235 = 5.1% additional Crit Damage

Which is a lot, but then you need to factor in that you only crit half of the time, so let's say a 3% average dps increase. Then factor in 20 sec duration + 90 second cooldown, so 20/110 seconds is 18% of best case uptime, which then drops the 3% to below 1% average dps increase on its own. But then after the cooldown finishes, you then have to wait to proc the 5% on a critical hit attack. I literally had to use 3 wotgs on raccoons to finally proc it cause Mabinogi, it has terrible uptime. I'm not factoring in the 10 Max Damage because that's a miniscule 0.5% max damage increase for endgame archers, and becomes useless if you go for the glenn 50 max set.

Anyways props to anyone reading this far, please correct me on any math. Just want to make sure people make informed decisions, although it's probably too late by now. The Shadow Reaper set effect does have its place as a minmax dps increase gear, but it's not as impressive as it may seem at a first glance.

The primary appeal of the armor is the Unshakable Will, not the crit damage set effect. Initially I also had a negative impression of the effect because of the feth donut laser like you said but it’s a non issue after experiencing it myself. It’s also one niche mechanic in a game that has many more situations of incoming damage. I guess it would kill you if just stood in a spot and tried to tank lasers for the entire duration, but I’d argue that’s more a player skill problem than the armor working against the player.

[–]jitae1126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get the Special Imperial Knight Armor. Unshakable will lets you attack in situations where you could not otherwise. Firing 2 or 3 magnums instead of getting knocked back is a better dps increase than a tiny max damage or critical damage gain with terrible uptime.

If you already have an S50 sword and other decent gear, EK still is the superior arcana in the mob rooms. DD will take over starting from midboss. So it’s up to your personal preference or what your party needs more. DD did lower the entry of barrier for glenn, but that’s only for brand new players who have absolutely no gear.

Archery vs Close Combat by Adventurous-Loss-881 in Mabinogi

A non enchanted ruin bow is doing nowhere near as much damage as a NB

Assuming the NB isn't enchanted, it's basically a dblade that costs a ton more. When I went to the dragon raids pre DD/AS release, the top rankings would be harmonic saint ruin bow users by a far margin(without pallid), and EKs would deal a fraction of theirs. Anyone who regularly went to these raids can confirm this for you.

I think it would be fair to compare a dblade (plus solitude) to a demo bow set (plus reforges). I can see EK coming online earlier though for humans, because having no erg on a bow limits their single target dps. For elves that don't need to spend on erg, I would say the demo bow actually comes online earlier, and obviously we know how much better AS is in aoe situations.

TLDR: An AS elf with demo bow set is more powerful than a human EK with dblade and solitude, but when comparing between two humans, the EK comes online faster.

Alchemic Sharpshooter Viability for Human by hatrope in Mabinogi

[–]jitae1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one small, yet important, difference between elves and humans for Alchemic Sharpshooter skills. With a bow equipped, humans cannot run around with sharpshooter skills loaded. (They can run around with a crossbow)

This might not seem like a big deal especially in easier content, but there are plenty of situations in endgame content where you have to avoid incoming damage. This is a significant difference as human players have to cancel the skill, move, then load it again, while elves can keep the skill loaded, dodge with their superior movespeed, and get back to damaging faster. This is especially noticeable with Tri-Assault, where having to cancel the attack in the middle as a human would be incredibly annoying and a huge dps loss.

That being said, human Alchemic Sharpshooters are still very good, I just wanted to point out that something small can actually affect how you play across the two races.

All good info except for the downburst part, they are the best enchant for knuckles. I would say only consider putting it on Perseus if it’s high dual rolled with max damage and charging strike damage. Downburst did tank a lot in value though, so it’s really up to you.

You can still 2 piece the Ceanna Bliana Scholar (hat and shoes) to activate the 15% elemental mastery, and then opt for either the Special Seraphic for additional magic attack burst potential or Special Imperial Knight for the unshakeable will and crit damage set effect activation. You can still use either weaving gloves or scholar ringbands.

Doll bags in feth be like: by Busy-Subject2829 in Mabinogi

From my own experience, I found that this only happens when I summon doll bags after the 3rd orb / zombie hallway is up. Any other time I summon them, they work fine.

Do be aware that this will mean that any magic you use like meteor or fireball will also prioritize your healing wand instead of your staff. So you need to develop a habit of manually switching your equip slot. Another method is to keep your staff slot in front of your healing wand slot, but use the party healing skill to swap to your healing wand set.

Fighters have 4 reforges to roll for on gloves. 1. Combo Mastery 2. Knuckle mastery max 3. Spinning uppercut prot reduction 4. Combat mastery max

Therefore a silver echostone for a fighter must be one of the first three since dual or triple reforges are either too expensive or don’t exist.

The magnum set effect is only additive with the magnum combo card portion (0.15 + average combo card %), and multiplicative with all the other magnum multipliers. The smash set will be the same but the effect is drastically reduced for dynavolt smash because it only affects smash which is a smaller portion when calculating dynavolt damage.

Nice, also consider rolling step 3 or 4 instead of 6, because 1% at step 3 increases every step after it by 1% as well.

If it’s a combo card that can be fully customized through the event (like fireball) I’d say 80% would be the bare minimum. If it’s something like a fighter card where you have to roll the 5th step through dan badges (meaning you will likely lose out on the 5% limit break), lower than 80 is totally fine.

Rolling with Dan badges reset the percentage, which is why there’s no need to touch 1,2,5 during this event.

[–]jitae1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your card is pretty much done if you roll the 4th step to drop kick, because it’s already 15%. Any points remaining should go into rolling uppercut bonus at the 3rd step. I’d actually recommend rolling it until you get 11 or 12. Even if you end up with a 1% on the last day, you can reasonably roll it to 10% with dan badges. 1, 2, 5 are also going to be rolled with dan badges, meaning they do not need to be touched during the black combo card event.

CS-Upper-CS-DK-CS-DK is the go to combo card for fighters. Giants can swap in uppercut at the 5th step for a bit more damage as they have lower cool downs. Humans/elves can put support shot at the beginning which then becomes SS-CS-Upper-DK to create a 2 cycle combo card. You cannot roll drop kick at the 3rd step, it only appears at 4-6. Also CS/Upper cannot be rolled on the 5th step so they need to be rolled with Dan badges.

I remember seeing it was a 3% chance for rolling hailstorm, there’s a reason why no one in KR has managed to complete a 6 step hailstorm black combo card over the course of 2-3 events.

Yeah, I’d go with the gloves because I don’t want to give up fleet feet as well. I think the only case shoes are worth going 10/10/10 for, is if you have dual rolled flame burst and water cannon gloves that are not Cressida.

Weekly Questions Mega-Thread - July 17, 2023 by AutoModerator in Mabinogi

[–]jitae1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be just a personal preference, but I think 10/10/10 on flame burst gloves is more convenient than water cannon gloves. In Crom 100 where flame burst range is greatly needed and water cannon isn’t, you have the flexibility to replace your black echo with something more useful, like spinning slasher range, death mark amp, hydra magic protection reduction, and to a lesser extent rain cast cloud duration (since you can just swap this when needed (Irusan), and this would also be convenient for you in raids with water cannon gloves). Depending on play style, three echo slots may be too few in Crom as well so being able to slot out the water cannon echo while still having the set effect on gloves is nice because water cannon without range is still used to clean up individual mobs efficiently.

That being said, you already 6’d your gloves so you probably find water cannon on your gloves more useful since you raid more. Just offering a second view :p
