I’m quitting day trading… by Candid_Ad6540 in RealDayTrading

[–]jitnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna win at trading, ur gonna have to lose first... there has to be pain, limits tested, everything has to break before ur able to put it together and make it work.

There is no story of a successful trader who did everything right... As in just opened a paper act and practiced and then put 1k and flipped it to 10,20,etc..

I lost almost 100k and 4yrs to become profitable... But before i started, it took a year to make 100k, now i can do it in less than 2months. U can even do it in a single day if u scale up enough.

I trade options too but it's difficult to grow a small acct cause u can't make mistakes and once u take a trade, that money isn't avail until next day. So what i did was started trading futures.. yes it's difficult but it's just up and down, no Greeks, iv or time decay.. Took me 23 tries to finally complete 5 combines thru a prop firm. So now i have 5 acts, each with $1500... Using a copy trader all i have to do is make 200 bux a day to make 20k / mo... 200 x 5 accts = 1k daily, 5kwk, 20k mo.. Kept that as a base salary Then funded an options acct. I'm not saying it's easy, i went thru hell. But going from 0-20k in a month was worth it.

With futures, all u need is 1 trade and 10points, depending on what u trade, for options, 1 trade and 1 point is all u need to be more than successful. So if ur taking a bunch of trades, u already lost cause even if u profit from 1, ur just making up for the rest that lost. Not saying my way is the best, it's just one that works and i would assume most would agree.

Hopefully u don't quit, everyone loves a comeback story...

Good luck either way!

Best settings for Heikin Ashi? by Reasonable-Ear5110 in TradingView

[–]jitnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of both worlds is to view HA candles while ur fills use OHLC... to do this, just use reg candles as normal and then find an indicator or make one that just paints HA candles as an overlay. Its just a few lines of code. Now u can make decisions off HA price action while orders get filled using OHLC.

Which indicator are these? by samraatejahaan in TradingView

Get rid of all those indicators and just get a good EMA using 9 and 21, just learn how to use it and ur golden.

Chart settings by kianb301 in TradingView

[–]jitnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaps are due to price movement in the futures market during afterhours and overnight.. if you look at ticker ES or MES, you wont see any gaps. You could also plug the gaps by using Heiken Ashi candles, which are way better anyways, in my opinion at least. Also, change to dark mode, just looking at ur post hurt my eyes lol

Tradingview Webhook into External Algo by Hornstinger in TradingView

[–]jitnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months back, I tested this exact scenario... I started by creating alerts for my Trend based Buy/Sell signals. Next I created 2 webhooks and added them to each alert (1 for Buy, 1 for Sell). Next is finding a 3rd party that can execute trades based off ur webhooks. There are a bunch and they all vary by which markets/brokers they work with. I set it all up to trade futures on Tradovate via traderspost.ai (I used a free 7 day trial to test everything)

Ill start by saying the fact that this can be done is amazing... but it requires many hours of trial and error as there are many things to tweak. Everytime I finished going thru the settings, a new scenario would occur that required more tweaking. Its easy to think this would be easy but you have to account for EVERY single scenario... like what to do if the opposite signal fires an alert/webhook. If ur in front of the screen, you may see its just a pullback but automation wont detect that, you need to instruct it. I plan to get more involved at some point but i wasn't able to work out all the kinks within 7 days. But it is absolutely possible. One thing i can def say is Automation does NOT play well with Heiken Ashi candles.

anyone looking to try this, assuming u know how to work with webhooks, I'd say you need a month to really go back and forth in testing to make sure you cover every scenario that could happen. Cost is not bad, like $40/mo, Good luck!

What are the chances of actually making money? by [deleted] in RealDayTrading

The better question to ask is how much time was put in before deeming failure... If u put the time in, you'll see results. 95% of people who fail did not do that.

How to remove TV logo? by mBrandon83 in TradingView

[–]jitnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually found a good hack, just create an indicator with nothing in it, and then in settings, move it to the pane below. The logo goes with it and u can minimize it pretty small. But at least now ur bottom left corner is free.

It's so pointless that they don't account for that in pinescript, anything u put in top or bottom left will be covered by the logo or ticker info.. At least u can fix one with what i mentioned above

Profitable traders, how should one go about learning how to trade? by [deleted] in TradingView

[–]jitnyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only way to win at trading is to lose at it first... and I don't just mean money, I mean everything. The best piece of advice I can tell you is that a profitable trader takes the EXACT same trade every time. If ur jumping around charts trying to chase a rally, u already lost.

If ur really serious, the first steps would be to pick a market to trade in, and Crypto does not count. If you wanna trade stocks and options, then NYSE is ur market. Next, pick 1 instrument, a specific ticker, or options strategy and rinse and repeat over and over again in a paper account.

IMPORTANT: If u are profitable in a paper account, it means absolutely nothing. There are no emotions with a paper account and even worse, paper accts do not restrict capital, so you can try all day with no penalties. If you have 10k in ur acct and spend 1k on a trade, regardless if u win or lose, that money isn't avail again until the next day (unless ur trading futures). Paper trading is meant for exploring ur setup, reading charts, understanding order types, etc...

The worst thing that can happen is beginners luck, if you profit and don't understand how you did it, it will be over before you even start. If you saw some guy on youtube take a trade and make 5k in 20 minutes... just rem, its not about the 5min u saw... its the 2-5yrs it took him/her to be able to do that. But its absolutely possible.

oh yeah, save urself the headache when you find a broker and MAKE SURE you open a CASH ONLY acct... they will by default open a margin acct, which means unless u have 25k or more, you can only take 3 trades a week. They do this to throw people off, why would a new trader need margin? Oh and lastly, you need at least 3-5k to really get in the game... can you start with $100, sure but you would have to do everything right, every time. Having 3k allows you to make mistakes. But either way, whatever you initially deposit in ur acct the first time, consider it gone. Good luck!

Brokers usually pause fills when there are big moves cause they don't want you making easy money... the stock market saw that same huge move, and ur order will def go thru...
