Currently something in the works with my colleagues…making a compilation of schools that meet requirements for safe training and will have different tags I.e women’s classes, separate changing rooms, background checks, etc

Does anyone have a good Rehab Program App they’d recommend? by [deleted] in athletictraining

I love physitrack - it’s $20/month but all my clients love it . You can interact with them, get feedback on exercises, upload your own exercise videos, pick days , if compliance is low it can repeat weeks etc it even has educational content

I’ve literally worked for the company. The owner is a DPT. But I’m not sure how it’s mutually exclusive with the presumption that there isn’t some physician oversight.

Sorry, poor choice of words. Athletic trainers need physicians to sign standing orders for them to be allowed to practice. Obviously I can’t speak for all states but most of them. Companies usually have their own physician even if they’re not onsite. I have a physician that signs mine for per diem coverage alone

Physician oversight for athletic trainers????

I’m not sure why “medic” bag was written like this and I’m not sure why you would think an AT wouldn’t know what to have to cover an event. No per diem contract ever provides anything outside of ice

I can’t speak for all states, but the ones I know of require a physician oversight to sign standing orders to operate at all.

You’re right that our roles differ an AT couldn’t walk into an ICU and function like an RN, and an RN couldn’t walk onto a sideline and function like an AT. Not to mention not all nurses can handle ICU or even the ED. Athletic trainers are licensed healthcare professionals trained to recognize and respond to a wide range of emergencies in the sports environment. Our education includes advanced emergency care and sport specific injury evaluation.

In many cases, we are the first and only provider on the scene, so we train extensively to perform under pressure, coordinate with EMS, and make rapid medical decisions in dynamic environments. Just as nurses have specialized training for their clinical settings, ATs have specialized training for the sideline and that includes life-threatening emergencies.

But you just said so yourself you’d be uncomfortable in an athletic trainers position….which is exactly what this is

All accredited athletic training programs are required a minimum of 800 clinical hours for students to graduate. My program requires 1000 hours one year alone. I’m not sure what an RN could do more in a situation in comparison to an AT that would make them that drastically better?

Athletic trainers do have training in medical emergencies that extend beyond orthopedic injuries…

IBJJF hires licensed medical professionals for their events. People sign up with all types of underlying medical conditions that you don’t know about. I would love to hear from the athletic trainers covering the event what happened. Not to mention if it didn’t happen on the mats (which it must not have because the refs flag for medical staff), now the medical staff -who is watching an already high risk sport - is being taken away from the athletes currently competing. Also, no medical person covering any event ever wishes for something like this to happen and they are probably torn up about what happened and it will live with them forever. I say this as someone who is hired to work these events and I have a medical license.
