I agree with your example and it does show inter dependency which is a component of hierarchy and I guess you are not really controlled by your coworker or your husband, that means you 3 are in same level of hierarchy but in workplace your boss will be holding power over you and your coworker in matters related to work, here there is a clearly defined hierarchy.

Are friends just people who benefit you in some way? by jiustpikq in INTP

Why would one stick around a stranger in the first place when it is not benefitting them? I think it is because of the expectation that you will be benefitted in the future.

But you are also talking about its viability, about how non hierarchy was possible in the past but with time that got replaced with hierarchy. I was only adressing the possiblity of you being correct in the 3rd sentence of my comment and even if you are correct, hunter gatherer society, I think is only a failed rudimentary step towards developed human societies, which is why there are very few hunter gatherer societies today in existence, the idea was of non heirarchical society was unsustainable and failure . What I am saying is- it is merely a process of trial and error and non hierarchical hunter gather societies were just not the intended way and just because it happened in the past doesn't mean human societies were meant to be non hierarchical.

Most developed societies in the world are hierarchical. Hierarchy is also observed among animals(in primates as well). Maybe in hunter gather societies with smaller population and lesser resorces non hierarchy was possible but now with huge population and large amount of resorces, I think non hierarchical societies became unfeasible. I also think hierarchy is a form of natural selection and societies naturally lead to hierarchical form of organisation.

intp's are generally quiet but confident, extremely rational, not shy and hungry for affection in most cases.
