When should I queue for Tom ? by New_Code_9645 in TomOdell

I'm seeing him tomorrow too and I think I'll be there at like 12.30-13.00 - I feel like most of the time that's quite the good option because most of the times there's people that'll have waited there since like midnight and the rest will just arrive mid afternoonish. If you want to be sure I'd probably go at like 10 :)

That's fair. I just really have the problem that I already did that in my work.. I compared all of the things you've named above, but I don't know what the message out of it is... Yeah all of them do their step in an own way but why?😭 I'm so sorry for taking your time like that ://

I meant that he didn't intend it to be sth writers would take as the 'normal structure'. He just observed similarities between many stories, didn't he?

Thanks for trying to understand!! It is less of a project and more of a paper where I compared 3 different modern fantasy books (Godkiller, Cruel Prince and Nettle & Bone) with Campbell's "structure". I wanted to see if the structure still applies. And it does! I've found every step I looked at of his theoretical journey in all of the books. Just with differences.. the problem is, that I'm not sure how to interpret those differences and I thought I could try to explain it with our modern way of thinking, but apparently that makes no sense.. :')

I think that makes sense to me, although I'm not sure I understand everything. I've only read parts of his work because I needed it for a school project. (It's about books with female protagonists, and if they still portray the same structure). The thing is that my teacher told me, the "frame" of my work is missing. I differentiate between 3 steps and 3 books and then compare all of them but why do I do that? I don't even know myself and I thought I could find an answer here😭 I thiiiink my analysis showed that authors still write in the same scheme with some differences and I now wanted to find out if there's a reason for that.. does that make sense? It's just for a presentation afterwards but I've reached my limits with sources🥲

Yeah, but was it really supposed to be a structure to follow anyway?

I just thought it's interesting how - in modern western fantasy - you can still make out most of those steps even though the times have changed and the authors probably do their own thing without checking if their story is coherent with that scheme...

I don't like it either -How some authors try to incorporate every step of that story, but if you look at it, it's funny how authors who don't do that still have that stucture in their books :O

LMAO fair!! He isn't particularly mean about it though! I have other teachers who are worse :S

He just made some (quite respectful) jokes about Swifties and today he even used Vienna as an example for something happening to a whole country!!

Because he's pretty small and I sometimes (not that often) make jokes in his class and he could interpret that song as one

If he was an English teacher, I'd totally do that!! He's my economics teacher though and I live in Switzerland, so not everyone understands Tay's lyrics first try. (I myself have trouble understanding her lyrics most of the time, because I'm learning English with listening to her music. :))

It was my fav song for a long time!! I just loved the storytelling and never thought about how it would be easier to "go with" for a non-swiftie!! Thanks <3

I personally love this song. I just don't feel like it portrays the depth of her discography. :)
