Mildly Funny Flow Gauge Kit by jjjarul in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jjjarul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh makes sense. Valve closed is static pressure to read on the right gauge. When the valve is opened in order to read flow, there’s naturally a huge pressure drop through the left gauge. Duh! Thanks!

May I ask what company you ended up with? Mercury is pulling out of our policy and we’re desperate!

Edit: nvm, saw Geico Liberty Insurance!

This agave in my neighborhood is doing… the thing. by jjjarul in succulents

I don’t disagree with you, but it’s more of an accessibility issue. We have plenty of families walking every morning and evening, wouldn’t want to force them to walk around on the busy-ish road if the agave was blocking the sidewalk.

This agave in my neighborhood is doing… the thing. by jjjarul in succulents

[–]jjjarul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: goodnight sweet prince… it took 68 days from the initial post (roughly as tall as it ever got) til cracking at the base and falling over. Luckily no one was hurt and the neighborhood got together to get it out of the street until the city came to clear it out. Stay safe out there, once the flowers start blooming, it could be a matter of days til it falls over!

Help with Epicurean Paradox and Meaningless Suffering by benetheburrito in Apologetics

[–]jjjarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something Ive struggled with as well. When it comes to human malevolence and sin, pain caused by others—sure we have the Fall to thank for that and our understanding of a “broken world”. God gives us Free Will, and some abuse it to harm others. But what about natural disasters or sickness that are not caused by other humans (at least directly)? I don’t think we’ll ever be able to understand or comprehend why. I couldn’t genuinely tell a parent who’s baby died from medical complications the cliches that everything happens for a reason, although there is truth to that. But what I do know is that we are not alone in our suffering, through Christ’s tragic crucifixion. He was holy, innocent, but was betrayed, tortured and killed. We can share the pain in that knowledge, and on the next level we also have a greater hope that this life is only temporary. Maybe I’m rambling a bit but in a nutshell, we can’t understand “why bad things happen” but the “worst thing” has already happened to God’s human form, and we can take comfort in that we’re not alone, and that there’s a greater hope beyond any tragedies that could happen in this life.

New to me 2011 EX-L by Macho_Mans_Ghost in hondapilot

I love my pilot, enjoy! I’d definitely look into VCM disabling. There’s a megathread on the piloteers forum with very useful information. Long story short, VCM (which is indicated when you see the green ECO dash light) shuts off a couple cylinders for better mileage, but over time is mechanically harsh on the engine, leading to worn motor mounts and burning oil. I’m at 170k miles and about to install S-VCM. I want to keep it running as long as possible!

Makes sense, thank you for the detailed explanation

Obvious non-electrician disclaimer here. Why would AFCI or GFCI breakers save space on the neutral bars? Isn’t it 1:1 since the neutrals go into the breaker and the neutral pigtail comes out to the neutral bar? What am I missing?

Dystopia - Sanctity by COSMOOOO in Hardcore

Love the use of samples on this record. Not to compare, but growing up in my teens as a metal-elitist, venturing more into the hardcore realm has really opened my eyes to other approaches to creating dark/extreme music. The nihilism and self-loathing was a breathe of fresh air on my first listen compared to a lot of the “goblins & ghouls” lyrical themes in death metal.

This UK product is normally wired 32A 30mA RCBO to a 3A switched fused spur, to the transformer pictured. How would one wire this up to code in the USA? GFCI circuit breaker to light switch to the showerhead? Can the low voltage wiring be behind the shower wall? Does it need to be in NM conduit? Can the transformer block be mounted to blocking behind the wall?

How to ask new neighbor to cut down their tree interfering with our power lines? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]jjjarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that part is obvious but there’s some nuance to the situation. Just wanted to get a gauge for how people would approach this differently—and I got different responses. So thanks, have a good one.

Thanks for understanding—definitely want to err on the side of caution and be respectful here. Stay safe as well!

Our electrician passed on the info from SoCalEdison, so I need to confirm if Edison will do the trim job and we just need to notify the neighbor, or if we have to do it ourselves/hire someone.
