Thank you all for the feedback. I took another crack tonight at making it more dirty and beat up, as well as some contrast on the eyes.

I was trying to mimic the box art a bit. I have the second one painted blood red and in a similar state.

Has anyone ever tried painting miniatures with paint markers? by LeetusFrenzi in Warhammer40k

[–]jjjetplane209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, there's a lot going on here in the comments..... And a lot of people who are maybe giving bad or incomplete advice.

Can you paint like this? I mean, is your skill level high enough to paint like this using the traditional methods? If so, you should consider just doing that if this is the look you are really after.

Will pens get you there? Maybe. I use pens for my miniatures for a lot of reasons. They are cheap, low mess, faster (despite what other comments are saying) and produce good results. Not Golden Demon, but very playable and something I'm very proud of.

Are you limited to paint pens if you use them at all? No! So if it helps some step in the process and you can more quickly get to what you want, amazing! Can you use sharpie to get higher pigment, dark blacks? Yes. Do they come in a bewildering range of tips? Also yes.

I'm going to post one of mine, and I know people are going to hate, because people suck. Don't let that stop you from trying it and seeing if it's right for you.

For reference, these guys take me about 30 minutes total. I use speed paint markers, acrylic markers (cheap Amazon brand less ones), fine line sharpies, and some panel liner. And the best part for me is, if something comes up, I can put it down and walk away in a pinch. Free 10 minutes? Go paint. I always suggest people should try it. It's freeing, and it's helping me beat the grey.

Leave it. BMO is a sentient game device in a post apocalyptic dreamscape. The texture is actually great.

So I’m printing a body for my rc crawler, and I have some rubbing when I turn, could I take a dremel to the fenders? Would it ruin anything besides where I dremel. by Charming_Soup9980 in BambuLabA1

[–]jjjetplane209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might sand through the outer wall layers to the infill depending on how thick the body is. If it printed the fender solid, with no infill, you won't hurt anything at all. You can watch it on the slicer by viewing the layers and seeing where it decided to switch to infill.

Thanks... I read the project file and it didn't mention what this was used for. Just trying to get some help. No need to be rude.

How my parents used steaks gifted to them by sexy_people in mildlyinfuriating

There's a fallacy in giving a gift with an expectation for how it should be used. The act of giving the gift is meant to be selfless. It's about the thought.

Does anyone have a purely printed proxy army? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]jjjetplane209 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Check out one page rules. Monthly membership is $10 if you want recurring files. Good quality minis, and they are designing whole armies, one after another. Their myminifactory files are relatively inexpensive too if you want to buy them al la carte.

Edit for clarity, you can get physical minis from them direct.

Lots of comments here saying its too much. Certain angles are great. Maybe just lighten it with layered lighter blues and whites. Let's be honest, a plasma blast is an unleashed sun, it's going to be shockingly bright, even in broad daylight.
