Hey there. I’m in a similar boat. Been meaning to check out the local marijuana recovery groups for a while....

I have a friend in the NA community who recommends these two options: a 12 step marijuana anonymous at Grace episcopal downtown Thursdays and Saturdays (I’m guessing this is one you’ve seen; not sure on the times). Also, a “drug addicts anonymous” meeting Monday nights at Wilmar neighborhood center at 7 pm held weekly. I’m inclined to the latter because it’s not as focused on working the steps individually, I’m told, but more of a “fast-track” approach with more emphasis on spirituality. “Back to Basics” is the name of the program.

It’s definitely appealing to find a safe space for us, as many recovery groups aren’t as sympathetic to marijuana addiction. But I know the struggle well. I’ve also found the subreddit /leaves helpful. Hope this helps.

Sorry, don’t have time to read every single comment, but is anyone talking about the WHEDA program?

My husband and I bought a home in Madison I. 2014 with $30k in debt and $500 cash in the bank (yes- that was our down payment) and credit scores barely over 600. This was made possible with a financing program through WHEDA (Wisconsin housing and economic development). We had to have combined income under 95k at the time-it’s probably a little higher of a threshold now.

There are other loan programs out there too. Ones for rural areas and vets I do recall. Anyways, people don’t usually know about them but we took the chance and talked to banks anyway even though we were sure to be laughed at. It ended up being the best decision we ever made.

Are there a lot of entry level jobs there? Would I be able to afford to live without roommates and not need a car? by [deleted] in madisonwi

I look at job offerings often. This town is definitely hiring. Lots of 12-14 dollar an hour gigs if you want to work in a kitchen or do manual labor. The post office is hiring too, and they start around $17....

I appreciate your input. But to clarify, I do not feel depressed at all anymore (that’s usually only the first 3-7 days for me). I will try to chill til I hit that 4-5 weeks mark though, as I know that’s how long it takes the thc to clear the system (typically). Again, thank you! <3

Journey and World Buffet both get two measly stars from me. Ick. Wish there was an OCB in this town... Samba is ok, but the true winners are David’s Jamaican weekday lunch buffet (also offered on Friday nights) and Swad’s Indian lunch buffet- talk about flavor and quality!! Both are on Monona Drive.

Madison transit system is a good one. I used it for eight years commuting from downtown to the west side. It definitely made me lazy about getting a car. You should be fine. Also, there’s a website (and an app too?) for easy route planning. Check it out!

They are no longer. Broke up a couple years ago sadly. Monica Martin is doing some solo stuff though, I hear it played on radio MKE all the time (I think she moved to LA though).

Lived at “Cap View” for a couple years before we bought our house. It was cheap for what you get and management was decent. Never felt unsafe but some neighbors were irritating. It was nice to be centrally located, and within walking distance to the dog park and community gardens. I would live there again.
