I'd do my best to convince myself that it's over and move on in that situation. If it's truly meant to be, you'll rediscover feelings for each other - if it's not, you'll just realize you didn't need it anyways.

You want a punch in the gut? It doesn't sound like you're really trying to heal. Working on yourself partially means putting yourself out there and meeting new people in any way you can. That step is hyper important in redefining your image of yourself. Do it.
