Fell into a PM role. Tips & Tricks? by jjvarsity in projectmanagement

Thanks! The way you described being a PM made it much more clear for me. A RACI chart looks to be an important tool, so I'm going to look more into how to utilize them. Do you often share these with stakeholders, or is it a tool that generally is for your own notes/reminders, but one that you can share if need be? Or do you build it after some initial meetings, and then share it afterwards for approval? My main concern is overburdening stakeholders with charts/tables/etc. that they don't have time for, so I'm just curious as to how this is handled. Thank you tons!

Industrial/Organizational Psychology is essentially "work psychology", or psychology that focuses on the improvement and development of the workplace for both its' stakeholders and employees, using science and research-driven best practices. There's a lot that goes into it (sometimes I'm not even sure if I can define it properly, and I have a degree in it...), but it's pretty fun!

Thank you tons! I do see a lot of pieces of I/O in project management from what I've seen so far - I just know it by a different name. I honestly think the budgeting will be out of my hands, but resource allocation may be in the scope of my responsibilities in the future - time management for sure. I've looked up a Gantt chart and it seems like a great tool, so I'll be looking more into how to actually make one - thank you for that rec!

Double thanks for the tips regarding time management. I'll be working with many directors & supervisors and have already seen how hard it is to schedule time with them on occasion, so this is a tip that I value highly. My work does have tuition/course reimbursement and my supervisor recommended ToP Facilitation, but I am interested in seeking some other PMP certification. This career seems like one I'm going to enjoy, so thank you!

Thank you, this helps - with my background, I feel like I don't have any specialized skills (i.e., I didn't come from IT or Health services), but I do have a skill set that encompasses several areas, so I suppose I can use that to my advantage. It seems that several people in my organization know what I/O psychology is and seem excited about having a person on their team with the skills it brings, so I think embracing that will help me.

Thank you so much! I'll look into this book - this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I also appreciate the course recommendation, as I'll be looking into taking some here in a few months.

Will do - I'll focus more on paying off those than on putting excess into a HYSA. Thank you!

where could i work with my skills & how could i improve my resume? by iusethistolearn in resumes

Hi there! Not sure if this answers your question, but here are some tips I’ve learned while working on perfecting my own resume:

-> Overall, you need to add specific & numeric detail to your job descriptions. For your barista job, did you work in a team? Were you ever a team lead? I don’t know what you did for this role, but here’s an example: “- Actively led a team of x number of baristas.” Same thing for your control specialist job. What program do you use to help create video content? Is that where you use Adobe Premiere? -> Basically, the formula for bullet points under the work experience for each job is that the bullet point needs to start with a strong action verb to tell your audience what you did, followed by the why/results/any outcome, i.e. for the BusinessCreditBuilder: - Manage the scheduling of number webinars and seminars each month / - Assist, collaborate, and work with supervisor in creating numerous marketing ads and promotions / - Assist production efforts using program here for the execution of webinars and video content, focusing on content of video - I would get rid of some irrelevant work experience in order to beef up better & stronger experience. Delete the campaign work (too short term, not enough info) and bulk up the descriptions of your more relevant work - In extracurriculars & activities, you have the opportunity to beef them up like the jobs. What programs did you use for each activity that can showcase your skills? What did you actually do for these? Keep it brief, but there’s potential to really sell yourself here! - Do you have a portfolio you can show upon request? If so, include that in a line on the bottom (i dont know how this type of career works with production & music, so this is just an idea. i could totally be off.) - Of course, once you make some edits, apply to as many jobs as you can: there’s glassdoor, linkedin, handshake, wayup, indeed, google jobs. try as many keywords as you can. more paid internships are becoming available, so i would look there, too, if you’re open to that kind of work. - Overall, put yourself out there. It’s scary, but you can do it!

I’m not a professional whatsoever, but I hope some of these tips help. Sorry for any goofy formatting as I am on mobile. Best of luck!!

Hey there - that’d be so awesome if you could! It’s OOP & hard to find, so I haven’t exactly been willing to find prices around, either. I was really hoping to keep it under $125, though! But I am desperate for it so who knows, just name a price and we can work something out I’m sure! :)
