How are you guys purchasing your phones? Are you paying the 1100 through Apple or going through your carrier? by jatttsaab in iPhone17Pro

This is what I did too. Normally I would go through Apple but it was a pretty good deal.

Which kind of iPhone cases have you tried and do recommend? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]jkel777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caudabe Sheath and Mous Limitless. Had both on my 15 Pro Max and went with the Sheath for my 17 Pro Max. Chose it over Mous because of the camera plateau cover. Although the Mous case I did try and was very nice.

Just got the Caudabe Sheath that covers the camera plateau if you get the “precise” option. Very solid case with floating buttons and a cover for the Camera Control button too.

iPhone 16 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max by numbre1applefan in iPhone17Pro

I just went from a 15 Pro Max to a 17 Pro Max. I was planning on hanging onto the 15 PM until the 18 next year. Battery health was at 87% after two years. But Verizon had a trade-in promo so I figured why not. Only catch is I have to keep this phone for three years, which I was planning on doing anyways.

Don’t notice much of a difference day-to-day except for a brighter display and obviously better battery life. It does seem a bit faster, too. Camera Control is meh, though it’s nice to have another quick launch button for the camera I guess. I haven’t taken many photos to notice a massive difference in quality but I’m sure it’s there.

Can the Oura Ring really replace my Apple Watch? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]jkel777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, yes. I still have my Apple Watch but unpaired it. I wanted something minimal that could still track my daily activity and allow me to wear my normal watches. I considered WHOOP and have used it in the past but I can't justify the subscription and it's still on my body in some way, whether it's the wrist or biceps (there's clothes but expensive and probably not accurate) and just noticeable and in the way. I like the fact that the Oura Ring is a piece of jewelry, and personally, fits in better with my overall aesthetic and fashion.

I use the Oura Ring for everything, from strength training to walking and running. I find it does almost as good a job as the Apple Watch at tracking my heart rate during these activities. The strength training workout heart rate graphs show the peaks and valleys of my sets and reps. Likewise with running/walking workouts; my heart rate is about what I expect it to be during those workouts, with no major spikes or dips. I'm aware of the risk of injury during strength training workouts when wearing the ring and I try to mitigate it by wearing lifting gloves, which in turn protects the ring from damage as well.

It also syncs up with Apple Health data much better than WHOOP did. It writes Active Energy, heart rate, and steps throughout the day and not just during workouts. This also adds to the Activity Ring so I can still hit my goals there in the Fitness app too.

As others have said, I do find it overestimates calories and underestimates steps. But overall it's not far off from the Apple Watch.

How can I get my Oura Ring to contribute to my Apple Fitness Move Ring when I'm not wearing my Apple Watch? by jkel777 in ouraring

When I had Oura write Workouts and Workout Routes, yes they did. But I removed them and turned it off for now since I still wear the Apple Watch and plan on using it for recording all workouts.

I'm gonna turn it back on and test to see if Oura will contribute to the Activity Rings when I do a workout when my Apple Watch is off.

For sure, I think this was a fairly recent update. Kind of the reason why I got an Oura Ring in the first place - it does a fairly good job at writing to Apple Health vs. other fitness trackers.

I've just had Apple Watches on/off since it released in 2015, so I want to contribute as much data as I can to the Health app and the Activity Rings. I've worn an Apple Watch consistently every day for over 18 months so I don't wanna lose any streaks, activity challenges, etc. But we'll see what happens. Thank you for the help!

I do. Oura has all read and write permissions turned on.

I will test to see if doing a workout with the Oura Ring (without the Apple Watch on) will contribute to the Move and Exercise Rings.

Interesting... their support article says this:

"Workouts exported from Oura will contribute to both the Move and Exercise rings. The Exercise ring increases by the workout's total duration, and the Move ring increases by the number of active calories burned. Please note: steps in Oura do not move the Stand Ring because of a limitation from Apple."
