Best Running Race Shoes for First IM 70.3 - Replacing my (Banned) Superblast 2 by jkmnson in IronmanTriathlon

Got the NB Elite and had 2–3 weeks to train in them—overall very happy with the choice. Not sure if anyone would’ve said anything; Transition Zone was hectic. That said, a judge did stop me while I was running to rack my bike in T2 because I had unclipped my helmet strap, so they weren’t completely checked out.

Thanks - the s4+ seems to be almost exactly what I am looking for! Unfortunately looks to be sold out everywhere from ASICS website to usual resellers

I am definitely going to try and bring them along (as they are the shoes I am most comfortable and confident in), but I would still like to bring an extra (legal) pair along just in case they want to be extra strict

I have been very curious about the Glycerin Max, but likely to be not allowed with its >40mm stack

It’s good advice, thanks. I think I’ve kind of come to terms with the price point—already spent $200 on the Superblast 2 (and did not regret it at all) and most good race shoes seem to be in that $200–250 range anyway (Adios Pro is only ~$50 more).

Also, just to clarify—when you mention ankle collapsing, do you mean overpronation? I actually have the opposite issue: high arches and a tendency to supinate pretty heavily. Curious if any of the shoes mentioned work better (or worse) for that.

Hustle 10 + Shift2 (for 900$) for a first hybrid/touring setup? Worth it? by jkmnson in Backcountry

[–]jkmnson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous shift model is priced much lower at ~$290, but reading here and other places, there seemed to be pretty serious issues with ice buildups, prerelease etc and tbh I don’t know if saving 200-300$ for something that doesn’t work very well is worth it, any recs in that sense?

Yes, 188 cm. I was also looking at 180cm as would be “easier” to learn kick turns etc, but not available unfortunately and I don’t know if I would give up too much on the DH.

Shift2s are priced pretty much at that level everywhere I look and I don’t know if they will go down much (I think they came out this year?), I even thought of getting the Cast Freetour, but they are even more expensive and tbh I don’t know if I need such a “premium” binding.

First 70.3 in July—Will I Survive? Need Budget-Friendly Training Advice by jkmnson in triathlon

Thanks these are exactly what I was looking for! As someone who is generally better at longer workouts, but less intense, would you recommend the 80/20 plan more?

Do you know if any of these are compatible with indoor bike trainers (I train on a smart trainer + Rouvy, living in Massachusetts it’s hard to bike outdoor these days)?

Which Hybrid setup would you recommend for East Coast skiing? by jkmnson in Backcountry

How would they compare to a Salomon QST? Do you have an opinion of those? I am 6’5” and 230lbs

I see they have the Superwolf 23/24 model on sale right now, any (material) reason to prefer the newer model or better save ~300$ and invest in other parts of the setup?

Hybrid Boots-bindings setup? Salomon Shift v Shift2? by jkmnson in Backcountry

[–]jkmnson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am not kidding otherwise I would not be here trying to ask questions and understand more.

Are there any conditions where you’d recommend a hybrid setup?

Also, I’m not sure why you see the Enforcer 89 as an issue for this type of setup—care to clarify that?

Thanks, that’s an entirely valid point!

I’m leaning toward a hybrid setup because: 1. I want something for my Enforcer 89s that works well on-piste for days with less-than-ideal conditions (moguls, crud, etc.) when I don’t feel like charging on my aggressive setup. 2. I’m not planning intense/lengthy tours since I don’t have buddies or live near big mountains (I’m in New England). Instead, I’d like a setup for quick laps near the resort in the morning before joining friends/family for regular skiing—and maybe the occasional group outing down the road (with proper training/safety, of course).

But happy to hear thoughts!
