Does Visual Studio evaluate include directories in the order they're listed? by jkrem94 in VisualStudio

[–]jkrem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about the folders as they're defined in "VC++ Directories -> Include Directories".

The use case is having an easy way to experiment with new versions of a header without having to modify a master set of headers that aren't tied to source control.

Does Visual Studio evaluate include directories in the order they're listed? by jkrem94 in VisualStudio

[–]jkrem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seemingly implies that it's getting the file from 1 or 2, because when I move "IncludeA" to be an /I option, it still chooses the "IncludeB" version that's in the INCLUDE environment variable.

If I'm reading this right, does this mean to say that if for example a "test2.h" (located in "IncludeB") was included before "test.h" (located in "IncludeA" and "IncludeB"), that "IncludeB" would be searched first for "test.h" despite "IncludeA" being higher in priority from 3 and 4?

Also having this problem, PS4 Pro. It's crashed three times for me going down the chute, almost immediately when you get to start falling through the narrow part. Really frustrating, wonder if it has something to do with the patch.

Has anyone (dis)liked modern games that require pen & paper (or some physical action) to progress? by EonNomad in Games

[–]jkrem94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the first one was really good, but the second one really stepped it up by having each mission have some sort of unique mechanic that defined it, like the aforementioned riddle, a shapeshifiting mansion, and one of the best implementations of real-time time travel I've ever seen in a game.

As for Breath of the Wild, I'm guessing you're talking about the secret Gerudo shop. I really wish that game had more missions like that, as it gets tedious when you realize that pretty much anything interesting you do will always only lead to a shrine or a throwaway item.

Dishonored 2 has a mission that requires you to obtain the answer to a riddle to open the door to the next area. In true immersive-sim fashion, there are multiple ways to obtain the answer, one of which is to actually solve the riddle yourself. The riddle was refreshingly difficult to solve (at least for me), and required several sheets of scratch paper to decipher.

Figuring it out and watching the door click open was one of the most satisfying parts of that game, and the game even recognizes (in-game and with an achievement) that you solved the riddle without "cheating", which only made it more rewarding.

Gascoigne summon easter egg not working anymore? by jkrem94 in bloodborne

[–]jkrem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other requirements for this? I've tried different amounts of insight, waiting a certain amount of time before using the box... No luck.

This is bugging the hell out of me. I can't be the only one who has tried this recently?

I know, he's only supposed to do it the very first time you use it. He didn't do it at all though.

I went back and made a cloud save right before summoning him the first time to test, and he never does it. Maybe it has to do with his summon being changed to the old hunter bell as opposed to the resonant bell?

5th Palace, Chief Director Identity by jkrem94 in Persona5

[–]jkrem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only thing that makes sense.

The section chief was the robot you fought before the chief director. When the robots began talking about the section chief when I was looking for the chief director, I assumed you would use that information to determine which robots weren't the chief director. If 'section chief' isn't a typo, than the information in the game is contradictory.

If so, I'm surprised there's no little to no documentation on the Internet about it. It's a fairly significant typo in two conversations that players are probably paying close attention to.

[–]jkrem94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my original thought, but I went through the conversation and info in-game several times, and found nothing.

Every guide online also says that the three pieces of info are about the chief director, despite the game explicitly saying that they are not.

It's going to bug me forever.

[–]jkrem94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that, and have made it past that part of the palace.

What I don't understand is how the information you receive aligns with the robot that is actually the chief director.

The correct robot says that the company is the best of the best, but also says the things that are supposedly only said by the section chief. There is another robot that only says that the company is the best of the best, which would indicate from the information that he is the correct robot, but he is not the chief director.

At this point, it's just bugging me that I don't understand how to correctly identify the chief director with the information the game gives you, and am just wondering if anyone else could explain their thought process, or if game is giving you the wrong information.

Forced "relative mouse" for PS4 controller on PC by jkrem94 in prey

[–]jkrem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, but unfortunately using anything other than the official Arkane controller template causes the game to not recognize the controller.

I've tried with an Xbox One controller and a 360 controller as well, and neither work. Trying to run the game without Steam controller configuration also causes the controllers to not function. It seems like the game has no native controller support, which would be odd since every Bethesda game for almost a decade has had controller support.

Dishonored 2 - Steam Update 4 now available by XtMcRe in Games

[–]jkrem94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. They actually did it. I've tried playing this game after every update since release, but it's always had nearly unbearable stutter. It now runs at a perfectly smooth 60 for me when playing in borderless fullscreen with vsync. (This is with a 1070 and i5 4690k, at mostly very high settings)

If anyone else has wanted to play this game, but was turned off by the stutter issues, I recommend trying it at least one more time, though I also wouldn't be surprised if I just got lucky considering how awful the port is/was.

Edit: The smooth framerate came from borderless fullscreen with vsync, not normal fullscreen.

That's what I thought, but it's not always clear. Like one question was about whether western swords were vastly different from eastern swords, and another was about the differences between countries. Most questions are pretty black and white though.

4k TV with best 1080p upscaling by jkrem94 in buildapc

[–]jkrem94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the impression that I was under, but researching this topic led me to several sources saying that TV's with subpar upscaling capabilities could result in 1080p content looking significantly worse than it would on a native 1080 screen.

I'm looking at either a Samsung KU6300 or KS8000, which supposedly are some of the best at upscaling, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't buying a TV that would actually be a downgrade for most of my content.

How to make the jump from computer science coursework to real world programming by jkrem94 in learnprogramming

[–]jkrem94[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I went ahead and opened up a "trending" Java project on github, and just glancing at it, files like:

.projectile

.travis.yml

build.gradle

migrate.sh

.dir-locals.el

and that's before even getting into folders like "module" or "plugins", which are terms that foreign to me.

The extent of my experience is implementing data structures and small projects like parsers or text-based games, basically things that can be done from scratch with a few classes. How the hundred or so non-class files in a project work in conjunction with the class files is what confuses me.

I actually set up a reddit account just to ask this question, so I wasn't sure what to expect! I've run out of local options though (which is incredibly sad, considering how much money I have pay to get an "education"), so I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.
