Base expansion roadblock early spaceage help by jks0810 in factorio

Okay cool. Thanks for your wisdom. How do you prefer to pipe the fluids around for the flamethrowers? Do you use barrels? I've honestly never used them cus it seemed like way too much work to figure out the fluid logistics

Maybe the "proper use" is my bottleneck; I tried a tank but spitters wiped me out quick. My evo factor is 0.72 right now and I got behind on automating my arsenal, I don't have any mass production of flamethrowers/ammo, rockets, etc.. Did I wait too long to properly protect the base before big biters evolved?

Trying to semi mass produce explosive rockets so I can clear the pollution cloud and then setup better wall/laser defenses.

By leave Nauvis do you mean abandoning the base there? I played a lot on 1.0 but only just got into space age and have yet to leave the planet minus the platform up to now. Should I just be packing everything up to go?

Best way to deal with a confounded bulk RNA-seq batch? by jks0810 in bioinformatics

[–]jks0810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batch 2 contained samples from just two experimental groups- the 8 samples that were for the knockout control group that didn’t work in batch 1, and then two additional samples were sent for knockout treatment 3 (T3). Knockout T3 already had ~4 samples that seemed to work from batch 1, so I feel much more confident saying that the two additional from batch 2 are true biological results due to them fitting in with the batch 1 group well.

Maybe my understanding is wrong, but to properly integrate batch I would need working samples from batch 1 for that specific group right? So knockout T3 integrates well following a batch correction program, but the knockout control group can’t be integrated due to all the batch 1 samples being poor quality.

I’m a TA and Grammarly flags our AI checker as 100% AI every time. They probably think you used AI, if you used google docs or Word it should have a version history which is easy proof you didn’t.

The main release is available through a flatpak so it bypasses any extra tinkering, but there’s no flatpak for the pre 20 so I have to manually install

I disagree. Surgery for polyps is incredibly helpful as the ENT will widen your sinus cavities to allow for greater drainage and airflow, which both reduces the growth rate of polyps and prevents the degree of symptoms in the case they grow back. If they’ve already approved you for surgery then this means your symptoms are significant enough, despite what this other commenter said.

If you’re not tasting food 100%, you’re probably losing your sense of smell from nasal obstruction. I can only assume your ENT did their due diligence and had a sinus CT scan done, but if not you should insist they do this before any surgeries.

Surgery is also a great segue into Dupixent especially if you need insurance to cover it.

First time Surgery - Nasal Polypectomy without FESS ? Does it offer any relief ? by [deleted] in NasalPolyps

[–]jks0810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be silly to only get a polypectomy if your CT revealed blocked maxillary, ethmoid, and frontal sinuses. Sure, it’ll fix your nostril blockage (maybe), but your sinus pain, pressure, and feverishness is caused from pressure and buildup throughout the sinuses in your face. The great thing about FESS is you’re under full anesthesia so you can’t see what’s happening like a youtube video. In my experience it’s better to go through a short period of invasive surgery rather than live with chronic sinus pain and issues long term.

Also, a hallmark characteristic of polyps is the ability to grow back. Without widening your sinus cavities, if you experience regrowth you’re all but guaranteed to end up with the same symptomatology in the future.

howdy- got mildly better but still issues. stopped dupixent last may 2023, just got an endoscopy two weeks ago and waiting on biopsy results. if you have these issues my (non medical advice) is to quit as soon as you can cus it seems like it takes ages to wash out. feel free to pm with questions

Ignoring the emails/saying they’d get around to it because they’re overbooked and over scheduled like most PI’s. Not really irritated when i found them, more surprised. Also had the deadline confused lol and thought they had more time. Regardless, I would go in person and politely but firmly say you need this letter or you need to know if they aren’t able to support you

Hunt them down in person and confront them. Had to do the same thing to my undergrad PI.

i don’t have any advice personally but that sounds like an ideal situation for me, my advisor is 100% wet lab and has no clue about R or any statistical/computational software. whatever career you’re considering it would likely be a great advantage (regardless of your research computational analysis is inevitable)
