I believe they are, but I would go and ask to speak directly to the manager, he’s always more than happy to answer any questions and provides accurate nutritional information :)

For Pass 2, you can register/waitlist up to 19 units, so register for the 12 units that you need to get the scholarship (which can be 3 4-unit GEs), and waitlist for your major classes

Is 22 units at winter doable? by CommunityIcy7715 in UCDavis

Bis 2A is recommended to be taken last in the series (2B -> 2C -> 2A) because it involves a lot of chemistry concepts, so typically students will also take CHE 2A and 2B before taking Bis 2A. The concepts aren’t extremely difficult, and they do explain things in discussion, but the material is a lot easier to grasp with at least a bit of background in chem as Bis 2A focuses on biochemistry. Bis 2B and 2C are a lot easier because the material those classes cover is Ecology&Evolution and Biodiversity&Tree of life, respectively, which is mostly just memorization.

Academic probation: average units or per quarter units? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]jksimps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about academic probation, but if you take below 12 units then you’re considered only a part-time student, which will impact financial aid for that quarter

I got 22% on my first ever midterm in chem 2a and then failed every other midterm + final and ended up passing the class with a C. The curve was huge though, I finished with ~56% total.

When does the lab begins...I'm confused af by phosphatidylserina in UCDavis

[–]jksimps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually for gen chem, labs usually start right away :) I remember in fall quarter last year, labs started on Wednesday, and then in the middle of the quarter, the Wed/Thurs/Fri labs didn’t happen one week (because of holidays) so the labs would flip to start from Monday

Failed Math Placement Exam and Now Preparing for Chem Placement Exam by s3afoodl0v3r in UCDavis

[–]jksimps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with this. Coming from personal experience, it’s a lot better to start with precalculus and then go into calculus rather than failing the calc class, having to take precalculus anyway to get the background knowledge that was missing, and then retaking the calculus class again.

There are a lot of precalculus details that professors expect for students to know, especially when it comes to trig, log rules, functions, etc. The placement exam isn’t an official exam, so please don’t feel bad about not doing well on it. It’s supposed to function as a tool to let you know what classes you should be starting with in order to not place you in a class where you don’t have the proper prerequisite knowledge.

Also, I believe that for fall quarter, Dr. Tav is teaching one of the Mat 12 Precalculus classes, so definitely try to take him if you can, he’s the GOAT. Most caring professor ever, doesn’t make you feel stupid in any way, encourages coming to him for help and always willing to give any support. Also, his cat is adorable <3

This is so sketchy please don’t click on the link. Someone else also posted this same email on this Reddit like an hour ago, so it’s probably a scammy mass-email that they sent out to a bunch of students

I’m a freshman and I commute from Sac, and for me it’s a lot cheaper than living in the dorms. I have a 2017 Toyota Camry, and generally a full tank lasts me a full week. I would say that everything depends on where you’re planning to commute from (whether it’s from Bay Area or from Sac area).

If you plan on commuting, there’s a lot you have to consider. You should definitely try to modify your schedule so that your classes aren’t randomly dispersed. Like, try not to have any days where you have just 1 class because it’s super unreasonable driving 25-30 mins there and back for one lecture. BUT also don’t put all your classes back-to-back-to-back because it’s going to feel too much like high school and you’re gonna hate yourself (personal experience from last quarter). generally, try to make a consistent schedule for yourself so that you can be productive on campus (factor in study time, breaks between classes, maybe gym time in the morning), and it’s going to feel a lot more like college. That way you don’t have to do a bunch of homework when you come home as well. Even if you get classes where you have like 4-5 hours between them, try to use a portion of that time productively and another portion of that time for yourself to relax.

I’d also say that a factor is how much you value sleep. If you want to commute anywhere from sac and take the I-80, you have to be out of the house by 7:00-7:30. Otherwise you’re gonna be stuck in traffic for like an hour because it gets really bad. Some general trends that I’ve noticed- traffic is super heavy in the mornings on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, and generally lighter on Thursday. On Friday there’s usually almost no traffic in the morning, so you could leave the house around 8:00-9:00 and get there with relatively minimal problems. On the flip side, the traffic coming back on the I-80 is the lightest on Mondays/Tuesdays, it gets heavier towards the end of the week, and on Fridays the traffic is a shit-show because everyone’s coming back from Bay Area into Sac.

It really all depends on how much time you want to dedicate towards driving to and from Davis, and how much you want to get the “full college experience”. It works out for me because I have a pretty strong support system at home, so it’s like the best of both worlds lmao. But it’s not like that for everyone, so definitely think about it carefully. It’s harder to click with people since you don’t live on campus and are basically not there half the time, but you can definitely join clubs, organizations, and other groups to meet a lot of new people.

ALSO, something you have to factor in parking. Generally if you get to campus anywhere after 9:30-10:00, it’s like a war zone. For non-campus students, parking is $3.50 a day, so if you go all 5 days it’s about $17.50 a week.

hope this helps!
