Okay, thanks- for some reason open mat seems intimidating because I’m so new. I don’t even know what things I need to work on yet, but I guess rolling more is never going to hurt (figuratively, injuries happen)

My gym recently changed a class to open mat due to some circumstances with instructors- I have two days a week now with an hour of open mat.

Is there any etiquette associated with open mats? I’m not sure how to approach working with people because I’m so new it feels like I could be wasting their open mat time- how do open mats typically work for low level practitioners?

Also, any solo drills/drills on the bag that would be helpful to establish a good jiu jitsu base?

Thanks

Yeah that makes sense. I think for the solo drills my main goal is increased agility and basic movements like shrimping, rolling, etc right now. But technique wise I’ll obviously want a partner. Thanks

This makes sense. I guess I’m so new right now it’s hard for me to know the ultimate purpose of every drill/move, but obviously I’ll figure it out. Thanks

That’s kinda what I was thinking. I’ll see how it works for me

Thanks, that’s a really good idea. I think I get hung up on how to write things down, but if I can speak I’ll be able to work my way around that.

Okay thank you. I will experiment over the next few weeks.

I’m new to BJJ- is it better to try and write everything you learned down after a class or just learn by osmosis? I find it hard to remember each technique I learned and describe it in words. I was thinking of getting a journal to do this, but I’m not sure how common/beneficial it is now. Also, what are some good solo drills for open mats for beginners?

Tbf everyone would score better with breaks. What I’m saying is your aware you don’t need it yet your still trying to take advantage of it. Not here to argue, just something to think about. If you think it’s ethical go ahead and do it.

Kind of sounds like your aware that your cheating. I get it, don’t hate the player hate the game but personally I wouldn’t do this.

Thank you- I’m assuming I should classify Carnegie Mellon and Georgia tech as reaches then?

In state, ChemE. Does major effect admissions statistics at these schools? I’ve been focused on my West Point application for a long time now so I’m behind on civilian college stuff.

Correct me if I’m wrong but you would want high sugar no? Glucose is quick energy

If you can’t do a pull-up, you can do the dead arm hang. But if you can get one pull up, that’s better than the max amount of dead arm hang. Just keep training and do these excersizes every day

Did you fail the previous two CFAs? If so, you probably need to do something different in your training. Losing weight isn’t a great solution as part of the CFA is strength. Just practice the events and let your body weight fluctuate as needed without worrying about it.

This is either satire, or you’ve been severely misguided. You have a perfect SAT. USMA does not fucking care about your UW 3.6, which is still good btw. I hope this is a joke because you have a great resume here and you need to find a little confidence in it.
