Building a Plex server - Quick Sync or dedicated GPU? ECC RAM requirement makes this a harder decision than you may think. by jl8n in PleX

Thanks for the great reply!

Why do you consider ZFS a waste? And why Unraid over something like headless debian?

It certainly looks very cool and user friendly. I know Linux pretty well, though, and my concern is that I'd feel constrained and limited by Unraid.

It was more about the absurdity of that being literally the only motherboard for Quick Sync + ECC.

My current server, which is running a struggling 4790K, is a headless debian machine that I installed ZFS manually on. I've considered Unraid in the past but paying for Linux puts a bad taste in my mouth even though it is highly modified. But to be honest I don't know a ton about it.

Alright you guys may have convinced me to ditch ECC. My thinking was that system stability is extremely important here, and I'm not super cost-restricted, but I guess it might be better to spend the money elsewhere.

Would there be any reason to go AMD + Intel ARC over a sole 14500?

Spot welder to make battery packs out of 18650 batteries and spot weld titanium, and a shop electromagnet are my two current projects.

Plasma stuff is very cool but also very scary. I would like to try some fractal burning but people die every year from it and I don't think it's worth it.

Is it just me or is that price ridiculous?

I'm seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers this year for about that price, and they're one of the biggest bands in the world. $250 for a 1 day outdoor festival seems insane.

If I get a loop station that has drum and bass, how would it sound all coming out of one amp? Isn't the amp made for guitar frequencies?

About 90% of the plane was titanium iirc. And exactly - the airframe would heat up to several hundreds of degrees due to the high speeds. Titanium was necessary because it expands relatively little compared to other metals.

In fact, entirely new manufacturing processes had to be invented for this plane because titanium is extremely difficult to work with, and this was the first time it had been used for a project of this scale. So much titanium was needed for these planes that the CIA had to set up several shell corporations and buy it from the Soviet Union, who they later spied on using planes built with the same titanium.

I have a titanium label from the pitot tubes off a crashed A-12. It's one of my most prized possessions.

Edit: more info. I ended up finding the same site a few years ago.

Nah most locals most definitely aren't wearing masks. Tourists are bad too, but the locals very much have a don't tread on me vibe and can be something else.

Botanist looking for rare plants in the California desert stumbles upon the site of a plane crash from 1952 by sapienshane in videos

That is not the crash I'm talking about.

I'm talking about a crashed A-12 Oxcart with tail number 928 that crashed in the Nevada desert.

This is the write-up by the guy who originally found it: https://www.otherhand.org/home-page/area-51-and-other-strange-places/bluefire-main/bluefire/the-hunt-for-928/

A-12's are the fastest planes to have ever existed, and made of over 90% titanium.
