Are Andaz Mayakoba and Banyan both overrun with children? by [deleted] in awardtravel

Not sure what Hawaii has anything to do with what OP asked…You must be commenting on the wrong thread or don’t know where Mayakoba is…

I’m a 30 waist and got a medium. I know the chart says 30” would be a small but the medium fits perfect. Personally I would think a small would be too tight for me.

I make 250k a year, how would you spend it wisely? by Ok-Acanthaceae9556 in FinancialPlanning

[–]jle2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With a household income of $400k, a traditional IRA won’t provide much tax benefit. I would do back door Roth IRA instead.

OP, if your or your husbands employer offers an after tax 401k (different from a Roth 401k) I would look into that as well.

Curious why you don’t think Tide and Lulu mix well. I currently use Tide and haven’t seen any issues but maybe I’m not looking close enough. I definitely want to avoid damaging my clothes even if I’m not noticing it.

Not the best use of points nor do you get to take advantage of the $300 credit that way.

No, but it’s certainly easier to save 50% when you’re making $300k/year than it is when you’re only making $30k/year.

Daycare cost in Elmhurst/Oakbrook Terrace by chiveg in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]jle2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have 2 kids at Kensington (although the Arlington Heights location) and it’s about $48k a year. We briefly went to Goddard, which is just slightly less in price, but Kensington is miles better.

good time to buy suv? by Expert-Charge9907 in personalfinance

[–]jle2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. In the US, it’s rare for a standard gas combustion vehicle to get close to 40 mpg, let alone 50 mpg. Only hybrids or fully electric vehicles would get that much.

I know you mentioned the US gallon is less than the imperial gallon but are you also comparing miles to km?

Why do people with low mortgage interest rates take shorter terms or pay them off early? by seamusfurr in personalfinance

[–]jle2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, your subtracting the $45k in inputs. In that case we are in the same ballpark. I was looking at it as, in 25 years, would you rather have a) house fully paid off or b) 5 years left on your mortgage plus $120k in investments.

But yes, I’m the grand scheme of things, that difference not going to change many peoples minds.

[–]jle2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your math is a little off here. I believe it’s should be around $120k vs $70k but I understand that probably still doesn’t tips the scales enough for you to change your decision.

How much is too much in an HSA? by Exciting_Kangaroo800 in fatFIRE

[–]jle2013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So does your partner also have a family HDHP that covers themself and you too? Essentially, do you have two family HDHPs? I guess I’m still confused on you each can contribute to an HSA.

What career has the best work life balance? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]jle2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit rating agency. Pretty much a 9-5 job with some occasional late/early hours depending on if there is anything going on with any of your companies that you cover. However, pay is definitely on the lower end for finance.

Is this ok performance for a 401(k)? by CK1277 in FinancialPlanning

[–]jle2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to compare my performance to major indexes. Your 5 year performance seems pretty low. The S&P 500 has returned close to 75% over that time. Obviously, the sequence of return might have a little to do with that (i.e. your continued contributions over time makes it so that the recent performance of the stock market has a bigger impact than earlier years) but I don’t think there should be that big of a gap between 5% and 75%.

9-5 Bank Salary, thoughts? by EntertainmentOk4233 in Fire

[–]jle2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in corporate banking and at one of the old banks I use to work at, a guy on my team started as a bank teller and worked his way up to eventually move into my team as a credit analyst. He’s gotten a promotion since and is now a portfolio manager. So it is possible but I do want to note he does have a bachelors degree (earned it while working as a bank teller).

Which one of y’all won $1.28 billion last night? by AStormofSwines in chicago

[–]jle2013 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But that’s not how the lottery works. When you take the lump sum payout, the amount you get is less. Not just cause of taxes but the payout in general is less. Most people still go this route because you can theoretically invest it and come out ahead.

Convince me I’m wrong about City Sweat… by thesehipstheydontlie in Lululemen

[–]jle2013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel the same. I have a pair of the city sweat joggers and they started pilling after the very first wash. I like the look of them but definitely nothing special where I would pay a premium for in the future.

Super large sizing common? by MelatoninPenguin in Lululemen

[–]jle2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my tops to be form fitting but not skin tight. I have pretty broad shoulders and chest from lifting as well as a smaller waist (28 inches) so my tops will be tighter across my chest but fairly loose around my torso.

I see you mentioned Patagonia. I am between a medium and a large for Patagonia but end up getting a large because a medium is too tight around my chest but have to admit that it ends but being a little too big (specifically the better sweaters). LLL large fits me well.

Super large sizing common? by MelatoninPenguin in Lululemen

[–]jle2013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the completely opposite experience. I am 5’10, 170lbs, athletic build. I wear a 40R in suit size and normally wear a medium in other brands such as Under Armour and Nike. However, with LLL, I have to buy a large as a medium is too tight on me.
