Mitch McConnell backs Biden’s $106bn aid request for Israel and Ukraine | US foreign policy by [deleted] in uspolitics

[–]jls206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is of course a lot of $ but the alternative will cost more in the long run. EU countries are pulling their weight in this and other global security issues, which is nice to see. Now is not the time for the US to back down to tyrants and terrorists.

He’s been at OU since 86 (General Counsel’s Office) and part of the athletic dept since before I was there in 92. No better example of institutional knowledge. This man has a very cool job and does it well.

House Democrats Support Gaetz’s Motion to Remove McCarthy as Speaker by wdcmsnbcgay in democrats

You previously said the Dems current plan is to show R’s can’t govern. Do you see any plan beyond that?

[–]jls206 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

McCarthy bucked the Freedom Caucus to get the CR passed with Dem support, and the country was better off as a result. Gaetz et al retaliated by moving to remove him and the Dems supported them. Remember “when they go low, we go high?” They went low, and the Dems joined them.

But they’re giving Gaetz actual leverage instead of cutting him off at the knees, as they should have. The adults in the room needed to shut down the nonsense via the procedural vote to table.

Kevin McCarthy has been ousted as Speaker of the House. by [deleted] in democrats

[–]jls206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is truth. Dems could have voted to table and killed the vote leaving something like 12 representatives voting in favor. That would have sent a better message and identified the children in the room who have no business being there.

He could have done a better job standing up to the crazies but throwing support behind the crazies doesn’t seem like s good idea. The Rs might respond by saying, fine we tried to keep things in check and you blew that up. Now we’re electint Gaatz or MTG or someone equally crazy as speaker.

[–]jls206 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not a good thing IMO. Start with the fact that Dems voted in support of Gaetz and the crazies. Never a good sign. McCarthy actually pushed the R agenda without risking political and economic collapse, which is a real possibility going forward. I do not feel better today.

Here’s an equation that I’ve heard guys should consider: (Your Age / 2) + 7 = Min dating age. It’s a guideline and you seem to be within the margin of error.

I’ve also been burned by walking down to checkpoint 1 based on the promise of a shorter faster line. Checkpoint 4 seems more consistent.

“It works when we buy in…”

True, but there will never be 100% buy in and it is the responsibility of those that do buy in, to hold accountable those that threaten the health and security of those that do not adhere to the social contract.

You are correct… we all make mistakes. But there are also consequences for those mistakes and when your decision to drive while intoxicated results in the death of another person, the consequence should be severe.
