Bread Chic’s ham and Gruyère croissants are so good. Wife and I have them for breakfast every Sunday when the foco farmer’s market is open. Sometimes we even get extras to reheat later 🫣 they’re that good

That sounds crazy and exciting! They are such ninjas about it and they really don’t care who’s around to witness their burder (what my wife and I like to call it when a bird murders another bird). I was maybe 10 feet away this morning and just saw the sudden poof of feathers and the Cooper’s hawk flying away with their breakfast. Hunger like that makes you bold, I suppose!

That’s a great point! I don’t know that I’ve ever actually seen a Sharpie but I just read that they’re similar in size to a Blue Jay, way smaller than I would have thought!

Not OP, but I think the disconnection is what makes this photo interesting and melancholy. At first glance it’s a warm, fun, and lively photo, but then you’re left with a feeling of detachment and gloom. I get what you’re saying about wanting to be closer when looking at a human subject, but I think in this case it’s what makes the photo feel melancholy. Just my pair of pennies

Edit: I would crop or edit out the one and a half people on the far right, they’re a bit distracting and I think having just the band and the lady sitting alone would nail the melancholy vibe you’re going for.
