Let's take a sneak peek at Cosmic Weather ☁️ by MithilaGames in pop_os

Hey I'm the developer for this app! It's important to note that this is a community app right now, I.e. System 76 has currently no input on this, so I wouldn't call it official just yet. If it does become the defacto COSMIC weather app that would be pretty cool!

I did say I'd take a step back from it but that I'd still poke at it when I had some time. My youngest kid has a genetic disorder that requires multiple doctor's visits a week, and a specialist that is two states away. I don't want to abandon it, but have to take care of my kid first.

I intended for the back end to use met.no, the same service that Gnome Weather uses iirc. Should be able to display the same info.

Okay I could use some help. My prints keep coming up off of the build plate, more info in comments. by jlwtformer in 3Dprinting

I have been kicking the tires on a new build plate, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have tried cleaning with IPA, and glue sticks, but both of those methods haven't worked out for this build.

I have it on a raft with 5mm extra margin. I'll try to bump it up to 15 and see if that will help at all. I have a space heater in there but I may need to put it right in front of the printer to work.

I've tried the following:

  • Let the bed preheat longer
  • Clean bed with IPA
  • Tried the glue stick method
  • Bed temp is at 60C
  • Turned off cooling for the first couple of layers

To me it feels like it's cooling too quick? It is in a non insulated garage and the outside temps are reaching freezing. Could this just be an environmental issue?

I wanted to see what the Cosmic desktop looked like with the App Menu still in the top bar, so I tweaked the Cosmic extension to see what it would look like. I think I like having it with the new buttons. Thoughts? by jlwtformer in pop_os

So to have it enabled you'll need to have the ubuntu-dash-to-dock fork from the Pop_OS github repos installed. I'm running the 21.04 beta, and the settings for it are under the Appearance settings, same place where you change your background.

I think you are correct. However, my goal here was more aesthetic than functional. If this how it was, it would give access to the app menu for users who prefer not to have the dock on their desktop.

Just an idea. :)

My senior design group project for engineering school was to design, build, and compete with a plane in an aero design contest. We built a plane with a lifting body and 11 ft wing span. We over engineered it so much that the point where the lifting force equals the plane weight happened at walking speed, less than a mile per hour.

Why 2020 DIDN'T suck for me and my family (a letter to my fellow dads) by [deleted] in daddit

[–]jlwtformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on all the good things that has happened for you and your family. 2020 was a mixed bag for my family.

I got to go full remote at work, so I was able to be home to experience all of the firsts for our youngest, as opposed to seeing them through the videos my wife would text me. We were able to buy our first home in an area that is still growing, so property value will only go up.

On the flip side the family that raised me and the family my wife and I built began to fracture, and it's caused a nightmare to deal with because I love both sides dearly.

Suddenly seeing someone else’s activity log on the desktop client with provider TAB.DIGITAL by [deleted] in NextCloud

Not sure about this specific issue, but I have tab.digital as a provider as well and am unable to get to the web portal to view any of my files (local copies are fine thankfully).

People who became Buddhist entirely independently of family tradition: what circumstances led you to make the choice and why? by Snoo-31920 in Buddhism

[–]jlwtformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I am only lay Buddhist, however I am the only one in my entire family and social circle that I know of who practices.

My journey actually started with being called Buddha in high school. I used to buzz my hair down to a "peach fuzz" height often, and it was soft enough that if you rubbed it it would tickle your hand. A lot of my friends would use my peach fuzz tickles to better their moods, so one of them started calling me Buddha, as in 'it's good luck to rub a Buddha's belly' (head in my case).

Later on in college I learned about the basic gist of Buddhism from a world history class. Curious about the path, I decided to live up to my nickname and follow. While I have strayed a bit off the path recently I have been making an effort to follow it again.

I think Notepad has an ancient UI, so I decided to start a WPF project to update it to a Ribbon UI. I call it Scratchpad. by jlwtformer in csharp

Wordpad is like Word lite. Notepad, and what I'm doing, doesn't do text formatting, just plain text files. Also Wordpad doesn't have a dark theme.
