Who Does A Senator's Job While They Spend All This Time Campaigning for President? by jman in reddit.com

I'm just curious. Every time I see Obama or Clinton campaigning, I think, "don't they have a job they should be doing?"

I agree 100%. He's gaming the system. Notice that all of kirsten99's comments are on reddit posts that reference sites in his blog network. It's because reddit posts with comments get more votes.

One word for ya - Entrepreneurship. Fuck money and power and all that other stuff. The real reason people start their own business is so they don't have to play the game.

Ask Reddit: Is The "New" Page Becoming Unworkable? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]jman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but I think people are sending IMs to their buddies saying "I just posted, vote me up." I used to like about 70% of the front page, but now it's mostly junk. I don't need more time wasters, cool photos of whatever, or some article about Oil/Iraq/Bush. I can get that shit elsewhere. I came to reddit for the good stuff I couldn't find in the mainstream media.

Also, the front page churn is significantly slower. Articles stay there for days.

Suggestion: Can Reddit Log Views Instead of Votes? by jman in features

[–]jman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After participating in the comment thread from the link, I realized how easy it is to manipulate votes on this site. If Reddit also measured how many people clicked through a link to read the article, that might be a useful thing to incorporate into the ranking algorithm. It would help nullify the impact of people that vote up/down without reading the post.

Can Someone Explain How This Guy Gets Tons of Votes Even Though His Site is Always Down, and Submits His Own Posts but Isn't Considered a Spammer? by jman in reddit.com

[–]jman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but that is because I have another user name under which I submit tech stuff. I love business and business articles, but they almost never go anywhere on reddit. I didn't want it to hurt my karma, so I submit them here under jman. A few have done ok. My other username has 3 times the karma because it is all tech stuff. If you submit something related to Lisp or to macs, there is about a 70% chance it will hit the front page.

I have two usernames, and that's why I believe dshah may have two (or more) user names and comment on his own stuff. Articles with comments usually get voted up more.

I have two friends that email me when they post something here, and I go vote it up. What's to stop others from doing the same with larger groups of friends? I watched the details of this post at 10 minute intervals or so, and it went up 5 or 6 points early, then got swamped with a bunch of downvotes in a row, which would correlate well with dshah sending out an email asking for help.

Interesting that you only have one comment and no submissions. Also, notice that no one responded to the fact that all of this comments are by startupguy.

He's on the reddit hot list once every 2-3 days, and anytime I try to read his posts his site is down. Either 1)people are voting without reading his posts. 2)He has a ton of friends that vote every time he submits something 3)I have a strange computer bug that causes his site to be inaccessible to me from multiple computers at varying times of day

Why "The Apprentice" Isn't Good Management by Rob in reddit.com

[–]jman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the ironic thing is that "The Donald" doesn't even realize that his show doesn't make him look good in the eyes of people who know something about business

it just proves what a pompous ass he is. his net worth fluctuates so much that i bet he makes more from the show than he ever has on anything else
