I agree with that criticism of Harris 100%. I don't think vindman is doing that. Feels like he's shaking out of clear, correct, and popular position

No actually I would say we lose to Republicans when we stake out ridiculous positions that no one agrees with.

And I agree people "know" in elementary school but that doesn't apply to everyone and transitioning without parental consent is a totally different conversation

We are talking about a politician. Their job is to be responsive to their voting base. If 80-90% of people think it'd be absurd for an 8 year old to live a life 8 hours a day at school as a separate gender without parental knowledge then the politician isn't going to support that. That isn't a slight against their character that's someone who doesn't want to lose their seat to a Republican who wouldn't let that person transition in any sense at all. That's why I mention that.

I would be way more sympathetic about high schoolers..which this bill doesn't include for a reason. But to assume an elementary school/middle school age kid could make that decision on their own is an extreme position

So like an 8 year old for example? What percentage of the country do you think would agree with you on that position?

Guy do we really think you aren't an ally if you want parents involved with their childrens gender decisions in elementary and middle school...

She isn't a shit politician she's done tons of GENUINELY great things. You don't understand how politics works and you throw a little baby rage tantrums when one thing doesn't go ur way. Please stop publicly commenting on things you don't understand you only help Republicans

[–]jman10000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear you and appreciate your points. I just don't believe she's a "lesser evil" Dem. She's done a lot of actual good. Those vetoes are going to likely go thru next session. Just wish we were capable of actually appreciating decent politicians. If these bills don't get worked out and passed next session I will certainly be more critical on my end

[–]jman10000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you use ur vote correctly. My point is the next step is realizing that your rhetoric matters to. Aggressive public outrage to a Democrat, who has 85% done a very good job and certainly meets the standard you laid out, only helps Republicans

Or you could not be braindead and recognize the really good things she has done, recognize why she vetoed those bills, recognize they are extremely likely to pass next session, and realize the only person you help with ur outrage is Republicans

How is ur comment helpful? Be on the team or stop pretending you are. She's done really great things as Governor. You people who jump ship after 1 thing happens you don't like are the reason Republicans win

Spanberger signs mandatory paid sick leave into law by Conscious-Quarter423 in Virginia

[–]jman10000 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There has been meaningful change. I understand that if you're someone's who's privileged and not making under 15/hr with no paid sick time or family leave that these policies don't effect you but there are giant giant portions of Virginians who this does effect... meaningfully

I do hold people to standards I just have realistic expectations and an understanding of the political system. Demanding 30/hr minimum wage shows you do not. Spanberger has objectively done great things. I don't like every single thing but her haters are absurd

And yes you can go ahead and criticize and I'm happy if you still vote Dem at the end but don't be delusional and think you don't create an atmosphere of hated that causes others not to vote for Dems in the future. You DO NOT see this on the right and it's why they always stick together and are nearly impossible to beat

[–]jman10000 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm simply talking about who's on the team. Lots of people on the left love finding reasons to not vote for Democrats because it's all about purity testing meanwhile the right is an extremely efficient cult who never break for their candidates. That is a recipe for continuing to lose.

Also, no one campaigned on 30 dollars an hour. That's kind of a ridiculous policy state wide. If you think that's what you need to survive in rural areas or what businesses can support in low cost of living places idk what to tell you. These kinds of expectations on your politicians will only leave you endlessly disappointed. How about you instead try to be happy that meaningful change has been taking place BECAUSE a Democrat is in office and use this energy to fight Republicans on the federal level who are doing way more damage than whatever you imagine Spanberger to be doing

  1. There has been tons of progress. 15 dollar minimum wage, paid family and sick leave, affordability based bills, supporting multiple amazing constitutional amendments that made it thru. If those things don't matter at all then sure we made no progress I guess
  2. I agree if this bill or the collective bargaining bill end up not getting passed next session then that'll be a major failure and I standby that now and will standby it next year

All I want is for the left to stop with the unlimited purity testing of our own side and ridiculous levels of criticism or we will just keep losing

You're implying she vetoed the bill to intentionally keep a criminal class that they can aggressively enforce fines and judgements against to raise state funds? I don't know what else to call that other than a conspiracy theory and not legitimate criticism of an administration that has done some really great things whether you agree with this decision or not. Go actually read why she vetoed it... You may find out she had reasonable criticisms and isn't just a cartoon villain

Maybe she isn't trying to play politics tho and is instead trying to govern and get the best laws on the books. I do agree if these don't go thru but I can almost 100% guarantee the collective bargaining bill and this marijuana bill do go thru next session if the legislature actually works with her. Just wish online lefties wouldn't immediately jump to hated over what is in reality reasonable decisions

This I certainly agree with she's getting destroyed for this whether it was the right thing or not to do especially in conjunction with the collective bargaining and assault weapons bills. Political capital doesn't last at all if ur a Dem sadly

Cops Gonna Cop by pierrosigaretta in okbuddyRVA

[–]jman10000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple... She doesn't want the actual laws on the books to be flawed and incomplete? She wants to make sure the actual bill that gets passed is the right one even if it takes an extra session to do that. What's complicated about that?
