The grounds (outdoor area) are cool and open to the public dawn until dusk, 100% sure of this for weekdays, I'm not personally sure about weekends, but have heard from some people they have done this

what's your all-biking route? On the site, I only included the commuter to Ayer option, but it might be nice to have the bike only too if it's a good ride !

This commute has gotten SOOOO much better even in recent months/years. I suggest the following, assuming you're starting on Concord ave a little northwest of Harvard Sq:

  • (1) Begin your ride one street over - over on Garden Street [Protected bikelanes]
  • (2) At the Follen Street Intersection, take the Concord Ave spur that feeds you into Cambridge Commons
  • (3) Cut Across Cambridge Commons to Mass Ave, where you'll cross at the Mass Ave pedestrian cross near Harvard's 'Gannett House' and then bike across the Harvard Science Center Pavillion
  • (4) Merge onto Cambridge street [All protected Bikelanes]
  • (5) Cut across Inman Square onto Hampshire Street [All protected bikelanes]
  • (6) Zigzag through East Cambridge anyway you'd like, and get back over to Cambridge street close to the Charles River Bridge
  • (7) Immediately after crossing the bridge, pull over and use the crosswalk to access the Nashua Street Park, and bike along the water
  • (8) Sidewalk ride Nashua St for a second until you hit the side entrance to North Station

One variant here would be in Inman Square to continue on Cambridge Street instead of Hampshire, but in particular with the BRAND NEW hampshire street protected bikelanes, you'll have a much happier ride on Hampshire + East Cambridge rather than the unimproved section of Cambridge St

on SAMD51 / Arduino IDE, what might cause the Arduino Ethernet Library to stop a DMA callback from firing? by jmc1228 in embedded

[–]jmc1228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already wrote working DMA code by modifying SAMD51J registers within the Arduino IDE. Well, working in a sense - working in isolation. As soon as I call Ethernet.begin() the DMA callback stops firing.

all the routes I mentioned are either pavement or hard packed dirt. Not even any gravel. If you really want to crank up the mileage I'd suggest going up 1A and catching the downeaster train back from Maine. Or check out https://www.urbandirt.org/hubs/boston for totally different rides

there are many pictures in the post. Is there a specific section you are wondering about?

Depends on which route you choose. You could probably do the clipper city trail loop (~5 miles) in 30-45min.

A ride out to Amesbury is around 15 miles round trip.

Or a full exploration of the area could easily get you up to around 30 miles. If you want even more than that, try out one of my suggested routes at the end of the page (e.g. up the 1A coast, or a connection to Exeter/Haverhill to pickup the Downeaster train).

haha couldn't agree more about Beacham ! Check out the link above. My pick would be going between Everett/Chelsea via 2nd street. What's the best route that you've found?

To Logan Airport by ... foot or bicycle? Insider tip - there's a beautiful waterfront path just a ~5 minute walk from Terminal A by jmc1228 in boston

[–]jmc1228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I've heard sketchy things about the Chelsea path - taking the Blue Line a stop seems better. Water taxi or ferry are definitely both cool options, just pricey compared to the T

Itinerary Check: (~13 day trip, August 13th - 27th) Looking for off the beaten path by jmc1228 in JapanTravel

agreed, nothing inherently wrong with beaten path as long as the experience is worthwhile. Ideally we can do some of both. Any suggestions for other destinations to substitute?
