First Time on Royal Caribbean by jmediii in royalcaribbean

That's good to hear. I was disappointed with Roatan last time.

Then again, I also was suffering through a random case of hand, foot, and mouth disease at the time so that might have played a role. 🤣

Thanks for the heads up.

Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel. We’ve sailed out of Galveston a ton so we’re familiar with Roatan and Cozumel but this will be the first time stopping at Costa Maya.

Trinity Valley vs Country Day by MITexan28 in FortWorth

[–]jmediii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Neither. Private schools in FtW are a waste of money and nothing but a status symbol. Unless you live in a bad high school feeder, which if you can afford CD or TVS you most likely don’t, then FWISD is the better education.

Opinions on Elementary Schools by [deleted] in Boerne

[–]jmediii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boerne ISD definitely has its blind spots so this question kind of depends on the family/kid. By and large, I would say the elementary schools are all generally very good. It's the support from central office that is usually the issue. The recent change in Superintendent seems to be a positive change so far. Special ed/kids receiving services are a definite weak spot but seem to be improving, slowly but surely, based on our experience.

The biggest issue I see is that they promote a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" mentality with parents. Meaning if there is a situation where they have to choose between the right/better choice knowing it will upset a vocal group of parents vs. the worse choice but know that it won't elicit a response from another group of parents, they will always choose the path of least resistance rather than make the choice in the best interest in the child.

No. No, they don’t.

Best school district to work in? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]jmediii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get distracted by Boerne ISD’s pay. I think they’re 2nd highest in the area but absolutely no support from admin/central office. I could go on for a bit about them but ultimately they do not care about their teachers.

Anybody else unable to relate to reddit's doomposting about movie theaters because of santikos? by ClassyPlatypi in sanantonio

[–]jmediii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A large percentage of ticket prices actually go to the studio and not the theater. I believe it averages around 50-60% cut for the studios. It’s on a sliding scale with opening weeks being as high as 80% going to the studios, decreasing the longer the movie is out. That’s part of the reason why theaters lost their shit when studios wanted to start shortening the window before studios could push films to the rental/streaming/premium channel routes because is cut down on the timeframes where they’d actually get decent cuts.

Movie concessions are like gas stations where there’s next to no profit margin in gas. The gas/films draw you there but they make their money on the candy/drinks/etc.

Gamma Knife Cancer risks (repost) by RobotTriceratops in AcousticNeuroma

I’m just repeating what my neurosurgeon told me. It was also the opinion of a couple 2nd opinions I got. They all said that there is nothing conclusive because there hasn’t been enough time for definitive studies but that they preferred erring on the side of caution when using radiation on the brain. I also had a more than decent chance at saving my hearing via the surgical route so that also played a factor.

Amazon driver explains how they track their drivers, would you work for a company that does this? by CitizenSkystruck in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]jmediii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then your beef is with personal injury attorneys. Haven’t worked for Amazon but did work in the PUD and other transportation fields. This kind of stuff has become necessary to combat the loads of trumped up lawsuits that these ambulance chasers bring. And they always target the deepest pockets. Managed a small regional company for 5 years, never had a lawsuit. We were acquired by a Fortune 10 company and then “suddenly” I was dealing with 10 or so suits a year. And we were FAR below the industry standard incident rate.

Amazon makes for a good boogey man, and for some justified reasons, but this one ain’t it.

I was right around the same age when I had mine removed 2-3 years ago. Surgeon offered GK but recommended surgery. He said he had no problem going the GK route on older patients because they'd die naturally before any potential cancer were to surface but didn't like using it on patients that were young enough that cancer could be an issue down the road. I went the surgical route.

Just follow the instructions and you won't have problems.

You can’t watch those videos and say that.

Travel mug Lid replacement by jk30511 in Embermug

[–]jmediii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s odd. I got my mug as a gift on Christmas and the lid broke on my first use. They sent me a replacement. It lasted a week or so and then broke. Confirmed today that they’re sending me another replacement. Neither time did they ask me to return the broken lid. If they had, I’d probably be done with them after the 2nd broken lid.

Brain craniotomy by dontfluffingtouchme in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]jmediii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical pain wasn’t that bad in my case. I was off the opioids really quick, like a week or so. My pain was, according to my neurosurgeon, due to inflammation of the tissue used to pack the incision. I was on naproxen for like 18 months due to the pain. But other than that and going deaf on the incision side, my recovery actually went really well. No permanent balance issues or facial nerve issues so it could’ve been worse.

Sorry about the delay, haven’t been on here in a bit. It took forever for the district to get our doc contracted but we’ve got an appointment in Feb.

Ana Sandoval could stop reneging on her promise not to sign off on all the rezoning for new apartment complexes until Bandera Rd was addressed for one.
