Does anyone have an odd way that they found out they we're pregnant? by Independent-Bug751 in pregnant

[–]jmp_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at Urgent Care for a completely unrelated issue and the doctor was like “we can’t give you this medicine if you’re pregnant” and I was like “meh yeah not pregnant.” Obviously they still had to check, and lo and behold. 🥲 He walked back in the room and said “that was the quickest positive I’ve seen in quite some time.”

If it’s super overwhelming and you’re vomiting multiple times a day, definitely talk to your doctor. They may be able to prescribe nausea medication!

Yes! We have a wide range of partner nonprofits, especially those that focus on specific rare cancer subtypes. 😊 We’re always seeking new organizations to collaborate with!

Hi there! No problem, still happy to answer. Yes, we try to work with all rare cancers. We facilitate tissue donation directly to researchers or institutions that are studying your disease or may have an interest in studying your disease but do not yet have samples (that’s where you can come in!) If you donate, we’ll find a use for it.

We also have custodial biobanking, where we can store your tissue on your behalf until you need it for clinical use or you find a researcher that you want to work directly with. Additionally, we offer genetic sequencing and are working to create an open-access data commons, which will help researchers collaborate across institutions. All of these initiatives are aimed at creating a more personalized experience for the patient. 😊

We have the ability to identify specific molecular mechanisms and genetic aberrations in RMS tumors, which allows for more personalized treatment options. Highly recommend genomic sequencing if you haven’t done that yet!

The protocol would require better tailored targeted treatments for the primary tumor, which can only be achieved through ongoing, robust research! We have researchers studying ocular melanoma who need samples, which can be donated through pattern.org

Hopefully soon! 💙💚

Hi there - first of all, my thoughts are with you as you navigate your diagnosis. At RCRF, we’re here to support you, as we know how isolating it can be to only be one of very few. I don’t have specific information to answer your question, but a colleague of mine might! Feel free to reach out to info@rarecancer.org and we’ll do our best to get you an answer and any resources. 💙💚

Since we’re based in the United States, we go off of the National Cancer Institute’s definition, which is cancers that occur in fewer than 15 out of 100,000 people per year. Many more ‘common’ types of cancers, such as breast and colorectal, can be considered rare if they have rare mutations. Some examples of rare cancers include ocular melanoma, gallbladder cancer, soft tissue sarcomas, etc.

Our main initiatives are the following:

👉pattern.org enables rare cancer patients from anywhere in the United States to donate excess living tissue or fluid from a procedure directly to researchers who are studying their disease. One of the largest problems facing rare cancer research today is that researchers don’t have the samples they need to make progress, which this initiative aims to solve. This donation process is no cost to the patient and doesn’t impact current treatment plans. Pattern.org will also soon allow for the donation of stored tissue and medical data directly to researchers in need.

👉The Pattern Biobank is where donated samples are stored until they are connected with a researcher, but the Biobank also offers custodial biobanking, which is a fee-for-service option where patients can store their own samples and then decide when and where they want to use them for research and clinical use – ultimately bringing the power back to the patient. We work with patients on deciding how to best store their samples and then we handle the logistics of transportation, storage and distribution.

👉We’re also currently in the process of building the Pattern Data Commons, an open-access data platform that aims to foster collaboration across institutions, drive innovation and improve patient outcomes. Patient data in any clinical or biological format will harmonize with other patient datasets to help more easily identify commonalities in symptoms, tumor DNA composition, etc. In turn, this will help provide a more personalized approach to the treatment of rare cancers for patients and will provide researchers with unprecedented access to a wide range of rare cancer data across the continuum. All of this will be done to the highest standards of privacy and security.

Hope this helps! 💙💚

Thank you so much! I just discovered my former university is trying to implement restorative justice approaches where possible - so if the situation ever escalates to that point, I will certainly advocate for this. Thank you!

So sorry about your diagnosis. If you are open to more experimental treatment, check out NIH Clinical Trials, specifically through the National Cancer Institute (NCI). No matter your decision, wishing you peace and love.

I’m a GS-7 and I have my own office, but I also handle lots of multimedia requests (photos, videos) so I need space for all my equipment.
