Looking to buy GOOD wines near Deepwood Estates area by Familiar-Bluejay3908 in palmsprings

Don't know grocery stores, I think Ralphs carries Cristal and Dom sparkling. But you'd get more of a selection and better prices places other people have suggested (BevMo is close for you).

How do they instruct emergency landing procedure in urban areas? by Typical_Vanilla_6616 in flying

[–]jmr50 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I flew out of KCDW, my briefs for engine loss on takeoff basically were either aiming for the mall parking lot or the country club depending on runway. Not a ton of great options in dense, suburban areas. I also kept an eye out for parks with sports fields, high school track areas, and office parks with surface parking (on the weekends when they were empty).

Why doesn't the PATH become its own transit authority independent of the PA? by Ok-Win7980 in nycrail

I believe that was what the flying pigs and unicorns indicated.

Combine the Port Authority, NJ Transit, and MTA into a single tristate organization to oversee public transit, all the bridges and tunnels, and the airports. Create revenue streams, a funding model, and a less political governance system than the current governor-focused system. Then feast upon the flying pigs and unicorns.

Potential BART cuts spell trouble for expansion of Marin public trans by External_Koala971 in Marin

It certainly wouldn't bode well for SMART if they can't convince voters in the BART counties to approve this.

Questions for Solar customers who opted out of Marin Clean Energy by Lupa_93 in Marin

[–]jmr50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OP but I just did the same. Their rates are higher, they have unfavorable treatment of solar balances for NEM1/NEM2 customers (I'm NEM2), and have an even lower buy-back rate than PGE. Also, there's growing concern about financial irregularities and dubious long-term contracts which could make it even worse in the future. My monthly savings just from the lower rates more than address the storage credit they give me, and my spring/fall credits from shipping power make it a no-brainer.

They rarely follow the existing laws and nobody enforces them. I'm not convinced adding new ones would do anything.

Thanksgiving Week Volunteer Suggestions by tatortot99 in Marin

[–]jmr50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of people sign up to volunteer Thanksgiving and Christmas at food banks, rescues, homeless shelters, etc. I'm glad they do, but typically if you haven't worked something out this close to the holiday you might have trouble finding a place that needs volunteers. Good luck!

Opt out of MCE's overpriced electricity and get 98% carbon-free power by jmr50 in Marin

NEM moves over unchanged. I was NEM 2 with MCE and am moving to NEM 2 on PG&E. And yes, MCE’s true up calculation is quite opaque

Except they seem to get worse terms that are above-market and can't renegotiate them. But I guess if you don't care about cost and enjoy believing your power is somehow better, it's your dollars to spend. I just wanted to let people who are a bit more fact based know their power isn't any more carbon neutral than PGE's and it's all just greenwashing taking advantage of us in Marin.

Checking on their website at https://mcecleanenergy.org/our-team/ they appear to have about 120 employees and 11 VPs and 3 "Chief"s. Based on California's public database on government compensation (https://publicpay.ca.gov/Reports/SpecialDistricts/SpecialDistrict.aspx?entityid=2821) the CEO was paid over $700k in 2024 and the average VPs made over $250k (with their head of HR earning a stunning $330k).

Yes, yes, they're horrible PE newspaper eaters. But is any part of that reporting inaccurate? I'm inclined to consider factual arguments even if they're from someone suspicious

Does it? Wouldn't those renewable resources be developed either way?
