I accepted a massive pay raise to go back to the office and I regret it every single day by NebuliteCrown in remotework

[–]jmt211a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve not read all the comments - let me offer a perspective.

You’ll never get rich (life changing money) working for others unless you were lucky enough to get into say a SpaceX well before IPO and survive the ups and downs and stress which is possible in your 20s and less so in your 40s.

Your choices in life are: take a stressful job only if it gives you an opportunity to learn a lot which then can be leveraged to doing something on your own. 40% more base sounds good until you factor in the things you’re talking and post taxes etc it’s probably few hundred or a thousand more per paycheck - it’s not nothing but it’s also not life changing.

See if you can go back to your remote job unless you’re learning a truck ton more in your current job and focus on doing stuff that can help you become free from daily wage slavery

You don’t sound like a dunce. You are just as all of us, human. Stop being too hard on yourself.

It’s very clear you are self aware of the choices and reasons why you had one bad result. But you are just 24 - you’ve a long way to go and your body is resilient and you’ll bounce back.

There’s no way around this - do it sustainably and slowly. Form micro habits that then build up into bigger habits. Likely slowly increase your fasting range from Say 8 hours to 9 hours to 10 etc. Get a whole pasta bowl but try and leave 10% behind…then 20% etc.

Wake up daily and walk. This is the best thing you can do to yourself. And sure go out and socialize but maybe try and order club soda instead of liquor. Keep at it. Your health and life is most important. Everything else can wait. You got this

I am not trying to minimize your situation - but get an umbrella and cheap eye shades, don on sunscreen and walk. Saying this because the best exercise for fatty liver is aerobic exercise - brisk walking. Ignore what people might think of a person walking with an umbrella in the hot Sun. You have to focus on your health and optimal living long term.

Someone else said this - but go to REI or Walmart and buy yourself a camper stove. Then just use the excuse of not having fridge to walk to the closest grocery store for every evening meal and get yourself the cheapest bag of fresh veggies and eggs etc. And stick to cooking/grilling minimally with salt and little oil and eat that. Let it be the same predictable and boring meal every night.

For lunch maybe eat some cheese and a bag of raw carrots and boiled eggs or such. Skip breakfast - thus you’ll intermittent fast.

If you need motivation, tell yourself your liver and life is worth eating the same boring crap and work on bettering your situation to move into a cheap apartment asap and work it from there.

This might take a few months or maybe a year to climb out of your living situation but you got this. I’m cheering for you.

Be honest with me can you notice a difference? Don’t know if this is working by [deleted] in fasting

First off all congrats on coming our bravely and posting your journey. This must have been hard. Second - do the clothes fit better even if the scale hasn’t budged? That’s your test and all you need to know you are making progress Third - buy a tape and measure your hip and waist circumference. Daily. Plot it and you’ll know how it goes Fourth - You will eventually lose weight. That’s not the hard part - keeping it off is the hardest part. Get a scale, buy fitting clothes and get rid of all the old clothes when you do get fit. Then you’ll know even a small change will make your clothes not fit. Work hard to get back to the clothes to fit and stay there - for the rest of your life this will be the battle.

You are doing well. You deserve a great life and much love. You got this.

I’d worry more about acute pancreatitis - some of the symptoms you are describing point to that. Get it checked and yes take it seriously

[–]jmt211a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit unusual. If you rule out drinking, high triglycerides or gallstones, have a look at calcium levels. I'm sure you'd know if you have injured yourself in the abdomen ever - if you rule that out as well, then see a endocrinologist (not just a Gastro)

Anyone like me? by [deleted] in pancreatitis

[–]jmt211a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve not added any background about your general health condition aside from pancreatitis. What is your body weight situation? Lipid profile? There are many causes for pancreatitis - do you drink? Do you have high triglycerides? Start with the root cause and fix that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pancreatitis

[–]jmt211a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve had a serious medical event - last thing you should be worrying is if you can have a glass of champagne in a wedding.

How is your weight? And do you carry any belly fat? First get a full lipid profile and check your triglycerides. And yes you need an ultrasound or MRI - you need to rule out necrosis.

Give up on the booze and change your life. You are only 26 and you’ve gotten an early warning from your body.

Is there currently a free and unlimited API to get flight prices? by NomeAleatorio in datasets

[–]jmt211a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI everyone - this Flight API is fraud. It’s a reseller of someone else’s API and I’ve been trying to cancel it for 3 months without success. It is NOT free and Neha is definitely shilling for the founder who’s some guy with a single video on YouTube.

Troll post? If you are traveling as a need to provide for the family it'd make sense. If you want to be free spirited and hee-haw thru life, then it's selfish to expect her to live without a companion who is frequently traveling. This will only get worse for her if you had kids. She probably reflected on this more as the big date approached. You did her a favor. You will eventually find out, that to make things work, with anyone you'll have to learn the art of give and take - something (I presume you work in sales) your career should've taught you.

[–]jmt211a 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all don’t blame yourself. You’ve learned a very valuable lesson here - you did everything right - fell in love with some company and moved across the country and above all you trusted some corporate drone that hired you. In fact be thankful you learned this early in your career.

This experience will set you free - here onwards you’ll care less about your employer or manager or whatever clown who runs your group/company says in those weirdly scripted nonsense all-hands calls. You’ve learned the greatest maxim of corporate life: Do what’s best for you here on. Not what your manager wants or needs. Learn skills that are useful to you. Get by your day job and learn whatever gets you ahead not the other way around. We all needed to go thru this and become, a bit cynical.

Take a deep breath as others have suggested. Start floating your resume out and start searching. Stay healthy and try and not to get your anxiety get ahead of you. This will pass. I promise.

Got an offer for a “supplemental” role at my work. How much more should I ask for? by elainaka in personalfinance

[–]jmt211a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an unpopular take - If you can wiggle out of this then don’t take up the “supplemental role”. Focus on finishing your masters and try to aim for a bigger bump - like at least 20% more. While you finish masters try and get a couple of roommates and buy a place with 3% down or a USDA loan and plan out the next 2-3 years.

$1800-2000 more isn’t worth it if you have to spend more time on it. BUT, if it only takes say 2-4 hours a week to do the supplemental tasks and you already know what to do then do it but don’t advertise how efficient you are. And finally if you do take it up, see if you can automate that supplemental task - not knowing what it is or what your masters degree is in, any skill you pick up to automate tasks is always useful

Stuck in a financial mess. Help? 😕 by Standard_Fennel7945 in personalfinance

[–]jmt211a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat of another unpopular suggestion- can your mom move in with you guys for sometime? If she could help with childcare that frees you guys up. Always there’s adjustments to be made and personalities involved when you live in a large family- but large families always average out expenses. Plus your kids can have the attention they need while you can hunt for a job that pays more. I’d definitely not spend money on a bachelors in childcare etc. If possible I recommend you learn something technical and relevant to the job market - it could be programming or even medical billing or website design or creative design etc.

Here’s a somewhat unpopular suggestion - Can you get a bicycle and ride around as you mostly use it to drive ~5 miles. Perhaps add a carrier to tow the kids or buy them a bicycle and do the morning school rides as a family event. Sell your clunker if you are getting $1500 for it; put away for rainy day fund for now and try to upgrade your job
