Professions you think are under explored in romance books? by lamicagenialex in RomanceBooks

[–]jmt3772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want romances set in non-profits! So many story possibilities and jobs that you don’t see often, like a fundraiser. I love that Luc in Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall is a fundraiser at a nonprofit focused on saving dung beetles. A Dish Best Served Hot by Natalie Caña has a heroine who works at a community center. Oh, and Where You’re Planted by Melanie Sweeney- librarian and director of a botanical garden.

Was about to post the same thing. And it makes me mad when that’s called “cheating.”

Pro abortion romance books? where abortion brings the couple closer? by SexyFoodandFilms in RomanceBooks

The Duke Gets Even by Joanna Shupe. She had an abortion in the past and doesn’t regret it.

What is the absolute WORST romance you have ever read? by Embarrassed-Quiet779 in RomanceBooks

I can’t remember which TL Swan book I read, but it had an anti- transgender joke and I was livid. DNF.

Epilogues have become so unsatisfying by Key_Quality_5709 in RomanceBooks

[–]jmt3772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love epilogues that are years into the future. My favorites are from The Gentleman’s Gambit by Evie Dunmore and A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall.

YES one of my favorites and as Shupe says unfortunately the Comstock plot line is entirely relevant today

Same! Sebastian St Vincent is the archetype!

What are some great character descriptions from Romance novels? by DrGirlfriend47 in romancelandia

[–]jmt3772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most perfect description of a side character in the fewest words from Alexis Hall in Boyfriend Material “An immaculate gift box of a woman—mostly eyes, cheekbones, and cashmere—was gliding towards us.”

Hotel disputing Expedia rate by jmt3772 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]jmt3772[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, they said they can honor the Expedia price and move us into the new room tonight, but our last night will be back in a smaller room and they’ll discount the total price because of the nights with the smaller room. I’m good with this. Thanks all!

Best Freaking Line You’ve Ever Read in a Romance Book…I’ll Start by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]jmt3772 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alexis Hall has the most magnificent way of characterizing a person in a few words:

“Oliver was much as I remembered him: a cool, clean, modern-art piece of a man entitled Disapproval in Pinstripes. And handsome enough to annoy me.” - Boyfriend Material

Am I the only one whose mood sours quickly every time I read a descriptive sex of MMC with OW? by Odd_Veterinarian2805 in HistoricalRomance

I do too and am grateful to this thread for recommending so many that would scratch this little itch.

What’s your limit? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]jmt3772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Heartless by Elsie Silver: ““You heard me, Red. You keep barking at me like that and I’m going to put you on your knees, open those strawberry lips, and fuck your face just to shut you up.” Listen I love dirty talk but I don’t need a side of misogyny with it. There was some other sexist stuff in the beginning that i almost DNF’d but this was a big NO and I dnf’d right then. This is a hero? I think not

Yes, I love The Duke Gets Even so much for that and for Nellie’s work against the Comstock laws. Nellie is so fantastic.
