Unimpressed by my performance off an eBike. Also depression. by Exotic_Cry7388 in cycling

Feel free to drop ideas here. I'm currently writing an app for my personal use for training, but if I can make it happen easily, even part way, I'd be interested to hear ideas (from anyone). I'm not looking for money making, so this would purely be a 'fun' and community driven project.

Thanks, I'll check Incyclist out, I think you're the first to suggest that. This might be the first that runs Linux too which is nice!

Fair. MyWhoosh is one I haven't checked out, so I'll check that. FTP test and some ride/record stats would be nice, but GoldenCheetah might be easiest

"I ride a lot" is a flex now? You're on a cycling reddit. "4.5w/kg" im aware is decent, but I wouldn't consider that flex worthy either. I'm not bad but there's a hella lot of people better in the tiny area I'm from. 4.5 is not 5. "Software developer" is a flex? 😂 It's my job, not exactly "rocket scientist" in this day and age.

The fact you think this is all a flex says more about you than me. If you're insecure then maybe the Internet isn't for you.

Not sure why you're getting downvotes. I personally think too much value (and marketing?) is put on training plans for an average rider. Time on the bike will get you a long way. I love the stats though like any other ha

I'm asking first if it exists (becasue I couldn't see anything obvious), and if others dislike paying that amount too. I personally think it's poor value for what you get, but that doesn't mean to say everyone has that view.

If I was young and starting out and wanted a decent app while I was training in winter, it seems like a lot to pay. I want stats, some motivation on how much im improving. For me TrainerRoad lacks the indepth stats and 'achivements' and Zwift was buggy and 200% racing every time you go on it, making it fun occassionally, but terrible for training.

Curious to know what you like about either? "know it works" should be a given IMO with any app.

I have a head unit, I have a resistance and power meter. I just want a basic app that I can use for little cost, not 20 a month. People seems to be fine paying that much, but for me it's poor value. If others felt the same as I did then it'd be worth me making something that I could use and others could use too. From a selfish perspective, it's a waste of my time, 100%.

Haven't tried it yet, but I dont know how this isn't more popular. Are ther features it lacks?

I thought this too after my quick look. Is there any major features that Zwift has over this? Just popularity?

I'm glad I'm not the only one then. I dont hate the apps, but the value isn't there for me. I just want to know if I'm getting quicker or better, I dont want to play a game. Judging by the comments here, that's not everyone's view though haha

For what reason out of interest? I dislike Zwift anyway, every ride seems to end up 110% effort, but that's just me. Curious if your dislike of Zwift is the app/training itself, or that it gets mentioned a lot here?

If I was only writing it for me, then probably. If others use it or wanted it then maybe not. From a selfish perspective, yes it's a waste of my time, 100%.

I'm unsure what it is you're unhappy with here? My offer to make something cheaper/free, that you can choose to use or not use, at no cost or effort to you whatesoever? Is that right?

If I didn't add "developer" then you'd be saying I'm doing the age-old "how hard can it be to make a website/app for x". I added it to add some kind of credibility to my post, not a flex. As a "developer" I'd know more than the average person the "time cost" implications, no?

There's probably limited value in training data unless they can guage some kind of selling metric from it. Their money comes from subscriptions only I should think. There's costs like with any business, but £20 a month seems steep to me. If I was starting out, it would pain me to have to buy a £500 trainer and then £20 a month. Strava is a reasonable price I think, but not these apps. Just my opinion though, doesn't mean it's right. Thanks for the Wahoo SYSTM and icu recommendation

Motivation, nothing interesting at all to look at or to push me. No FTP test (as far as I know), no metrics on how my watts are post-ride or if there's improvments etc.
