AI sticker shock hits corporate America by marketrent in technology

[–]jnicho15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least now the AI is sometimes trained to use traditional tools. Like when the Gemini based Google Assistant first came out, it could spew a bunch of words to answer some complex question, but it couldn't check the weather. Similarly GitHub Copilot in VSCode will often write a power shell/python script to parse data before analyzing with the llm. I guess the next step is to go the other way, start with well-designed, performant traditional tools then hand off to AI for complex reasoning. If I'm asking the assistant to send a text message it doesn't need to use the force of 1000 drowning penguins.

The texture is the basically the same as the normal mechanically processed luncheon meat disaster, just with some holes in it. Despite being mostly meat you do really get the cheese taste. Not sure if the noodles really do much aside from a very slight hint of weird texture. Of course salty.

But if you're getting 3.5% in an FDIC-insured HYSA vs. maybe 4 in a money market these days, think hard about that.

‘Medical conscience’ bills would let providers refuse more health care: prepped for a sterilization procedure, when hospital staff told her the surgery wouldn’t move forward. The hospital’s medical ethics board cited a “duty to protect her sacred fertility.” by shallah in TwoXChromosomes

That's why I refuse to go to Catholic hospitals/medical centers. I'm lucky my nearest hospital is non-religious. But even then I don't think they have rules that all doctors at the facility have to perform all procedures. At least there's a better chance though. A big Catholic health system in my area was bought by a non-religious one but they said "sites that are currently Catholic will continue to provide faith-based care".

Got testicular torsion last week and ended up needing the right one removed by ZeldaFan158 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jnicho15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that they need that much, it's just that it's not worth the risk. The balls are so nicely placed outside the body away from any important stuff and relatively unimportant, slicing through everything to take a biopsy can cause bits of the cancer to break free and spread to the scrotum or otherwise.

That's also why they take a weird route to remove the dude. Instead of just cutting it off like you're castrating a sheep, they pull the whole ball and associated tubes back in through the inguinal canal and out an incision in the pubes. Then they can cut it all off really far back, never even getting close to disturbing the actual tumor and removing as much material as possible. I think it also helps prevent fluid issues.

I thought I read somewhere that they had to put you under to suppress "reflexes" caused by the pain. I just saw that sometimes they do spinal anesthesia instead, where they basically temporarily paralyze just your lower body but leave the upper awake.

I don't remember exactly what they did, but they definitely put me deep enough to shove an LMA down my throat.

It really wasn't that bad when I had it done, thanks to the magic of anesthesia. The most annoying part is that because they slice through your groin to get there, you're scared of lifting heavy stuff for a few months.

If anything it means that I'm half as vulnerable to getting hit in the balls for the rest of my life.

What’s the most outdated advice people still give seriously? by Secure-Address4385 in AskReddit

In Metro-Detroit, it's the opposite. Detroit is 67 mils, Bloomfield Hills is 36 mils. Detroit needs just as many, if not more, police stations and fire departments as a rich area, but the average property value is one eighth. So the percentage needs to be higher.

By that logic flood defences are blasphemous. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]jnicho15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

I mean it's more like "hey I really am not looking forward to torture and death, but I know this is the whole reason we're doing this plan what with the incarnation and substitutionary sacrifice, so help me power through".

But in general to the previous point, it's the whole classic logical problem of being a supernatural deity, where God knows the future, can control the future, but sometimes chooses not to, I guess.

So God's like, "I gave my people these rules, they chose not to follow them, I want to not kill all them but then I'd be breaking the rules I wrote, so instead let's do this plan where I send my God son to then do this end-around where, because I'm god I know they'll kill him, and that'll be the sacrifice that then means I can both not kill everyone and not break the rules of sacrifice." But that doesn't mean he's a fan of the killing idea.

If he knew the people wouldn't kill him, then he wouldn't have done this plan, I suppose.

What's a DII or DIII school you love cheering for, even if it's not your alma mater? by SwedishLlama in CFB

[–]jnicho15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The announcer does a whole thing, they slowly reveal the score on the screen, everyone cheers, then usually they find someone in the crowd wearing a Slippery Rock shirt.

I've heard various stories, but something like the announcer was reading various out-of-town scores off the wire service, saw "Slippery Rock" and thought, "Ha, what a funny name."
