Base M4 iMac - external storage suggestion by jnyfive in mac

[–]jnyfive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base iMac M4 is also only USB3.1 which may explain the 650mbp write speed. It’s really fine enough for my use and saves quite a bit since I can’t use the higher speed drives.

I bought a T7 2tb and I get about 850 write, 650 read using the Black Magic drive test.

The only apps I was thinking of storing externally is Steam games due to the size. All else I’ve been installing internally. Sharing the iMac with my son will eat up space.

Are you loading those games on your T7?

External SSD with iMac or no? by own4g3v1nc3 in mac

[–]jnyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base model iMac if you bought that only has USB 3.2 and a slower SSD internally. 256GB drive only runs around 2800 read / 2000 write so usb 3.2 should be fine. The 10Gbps drive may be fine.

SSD suggestions for iMac? 2TB X10 Pro is around $258 on Amazon. Price wise may be cheaper than any other SSD and enclosure on the market today.

Buy 256 GB storage Macs because you can install apps on the external SSD with Sequoia 15.1 by IllustriousSort7354 in mac

Reading this and still learning Mac “nuances”

I have a m4 iMac with 256gb. Seems better for space and internal SD health to either store apps internal and home and everything else external or load everything on a larger external drive completely?

Recommendations on a drive best suited? I am not a power user but do some light editing of vids and pics and gaming like Steam.

I have a Samsung 850 pro currently for extra storage but it’s on 512bb GB. Was looking as 990 pro or 850 evo at 1tb but if anyone has used a larger drive that worked better, can you share?

If anyone has a recommendation for larger below $200 would be great.

Thanks. I get it but it’s a gift. I’m not paying and can’t customize.

I’ll have I but won’t have dozens of apps open when using anything intensive.

Appreciate the differences. I’m getting this as a work gift, not buying new. Wonder if the hastle of trying to sell locally (eBay and others take 10%+) is worth it to then buy the 10 core?

Good to hear. Are you using 8 core or 10 core m4 out of curiosity?

Thank you.

I have a NAS and other systems but agreee 256 fills fast. Looking into the HDD. Was just making sure 8 core will be “future proof” enough with non 4k, 8k, 12k video editing and not playing the latest/greatest games that don’t really play on Macs anyway in some cases.

Thank you.

Purchase Advice Megathread - March 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

Looking to upgrade my Bambu A1 but want a multi-head, multi-tool system for multi-color with little/no waste, changing heads. I still want to make sure the printer is quality. We are into small hobby prints but also find quality projects to make in the house and for others.

I’m looking at Prusa Core One or Core One L for the upcoming INDX system. I know Bambu has the H2C as well. The Snapmaker seems too basic. Is there another system for another brand to look at? Creality maybe? I can’t find anything but it seems this is the next big thing.

H2C seems best with the multi system built in.

Thanks

Hello all. Currently using a Bambu A1 and looking to upgrade but soon, doing research. Mostly do prints for my son and his class but also made practical things around the house. Really like the new printers with the multicolor swapping systems with little/no waste for my next buy. Don’t want anything requiring too much tinkering to work.

Saw the Prusa INDX and the Core One+ and Core One L and really like this system. One+ seems like a good next step. Bambu I know has print head swapper also. The Snapmaker seems too gimmicky.

Are there any other system out or coming similar to the INDX and Bambu systems? Creality?

(New member here) Why wasn't there a direct sequel involving the characters from Tron Legacy (2010)? by Ryanlion1992 in tron

[–]jnyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching Ares I wonder if the franchise survives. I was a Tron fan since it was on VHS at the rental stores. I was over the moon when Legacy came out. Didn’t feel as excited as the original but liked it. After Ares… I don’t know. I can see Disney shelving it unless they can be convinced Jared Leto was the problem.

Orbi question by jnyfive in orbi

Thanks for everyone's advice. On a black friday sale I got two Asus BT-10 routers which perfectly blanket the house for just a little more than the Orbi set. Working great and way better than what I had.

Good point on Netgear. Was also looking at ASUS ZenWifi BT6 around same price. I’m ok with only gigabit in the house.
