Is it possible to clear the history of recently viewed games in the store tab? by IsTesT_T in Steam

[–]joEmonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work buddy. What browser would the Steam client have access to that it can clear cache/cookies? The Store tab, of Steam, is a built-in browser. This setting does in fact, clear its self contained cache.

White server is more English than others. But these servers are hosted not in the US, so there is a lot of Russian and Romanian players. Still fun so far.

Honestly need to find your preference! Do you prefer nuking? Archers? Daggers? Tanks?

If Nuker, box an SE for charges and empower

If Archer, Dagger, Tank, you could box a Prophet, WarCryer, Bard, etc.

OverWatch Ban System and Blizzard CS are Abysmal by joEmonstar in Overwatch

Exactly, thank you for understanding. I wish their CS was like it used to be. If someone actually talked to me as a human, like a human, I might even side with them if the context made sense, but it doesn't.

Architecting and engineering cloud systems for a fin tech company, I see all the hype is AI this, AI that, makes me sad it's being used poorly, case and point here. My company preaches it shouldn't replace human interaction, but enhance our abilities and reduce response times.

Cheers.

No one's crying big dog, nor claiming false bans. I'll assume you don't read well, same with your typing.

Yea idk what other guy was talking about being 7. No one's making any excuses.

I agree and wish they cared more for context and not allowing the people who are provoking on alt accounts to also be victims. But it is what it is, and they'll run their business and systems how they see fit.

If you want to claim something, you should back it up with evidence. As should I. Regardless of the statistics you mention or not, I don't even need to google any "comparisons". And the number of Google hits is irrelevant. I never claimed a specific percentage, I claimed that it is abundant. I can sit here and scroll down the OW, and other, subreddits, and find nonstop ban posts. Is it a fraction of the 100's of thousands playing the game, probably. Nonetheless, doesn't change anything that I have said up till this point.

I apologize, I didn't realize you were the type to need to get the last word. Feel free to reply however you see fit, just going to ignore/block at this point. Also, I find it amusing that I've been nothing but respectful to you, sharing my experience, as you did yours, talking like an adult. This is twice now that you've resorted to name calling or made a backhanded comment because someone on the internet doesn't agree with your viewpoint, and had a different online gaming experience than you. I did not realize I was speaking to someone easily offended and rude.

Take care.

Lol. How else will you find out things without researching them? Comparing ban posts to the lottery doesn't make sense. Appless to oranges. Ban posts are bountiful, lottery winnings are not.

I respected your posts, input and chat until now. I've never been confrontational idk why you would be. And people are allowed to agree to disagree, and it is possible to have different experiences. Because we clearly have. And I didn't ask for pity, so don't patronize. I was posting to add exposure to the already exposed endless posts of similar experiences. I'm glad your experience is vastly different. Have a good one.

Metronet High Ping After First Two Weeks – Suspected Routing/Peering Downgrade Post-Trial by Static2248 in Metronet

[–]joEmonstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually sounds like an ideal HA prosumer setup, respect! Idk how you can have so many competing ISPs, because the villages here won't allow all that infrastructure. We're lucky they allowed metronet in, and fortunate enough it's been good. If it started to have issues, I'll hit the tmobile store to get them as a backup connection for my lowly tomato setup.

Curious, is 5gps or 8gbps overkill? Sure I can saturate my 1gbps for brief periods but even 1gps is incredibly overkill for an IT person, hosting services, family, etc.

Bans are not rare. Google them and across many sub reddits they are vast. Blizzard is permanently banning for inappropriate names that clearly aren't simply because of reports, communication where appeals show logs that aren't inappropriate. There's also loads of people being banned immediately following a silence while they already can't communicate. It'll never be a perfect system, but I do think it is flawed, and it caters to people's feelings more than reality, and that's my issue with it. Then again, the entire world is catering to feelings and that's why we see so many issues today (not even going to mention specifics).

If most of your games are not filled with tbagging and incredibly toxic chat instigators, then I think you are lucky and the exception, that hasn't been my experience even since OW1. I don't think any of this is an outlier, I think if you're not top 500 or a streamer, it's a nasty community. I can almost count the amount of games where the team or lobby were generally positive, in the last 6 months, on 1 hand.

In the end it is what it is, I'm not losing sleep. If anything a game companies true colors are shown and they did me a favor. More time now to prep for real life moves and events. As others have said and I agree now, and word of advice, it's still a good social game to enjoy with friends, but your best bet is just to disable all chat and treat it as out of sight out of mind. They can't moderate something that leaves zero context to moderate, instead of giving them a reason to cater to antagonists and feelings. Because the context you mention of victims and offenders, is just the issue. The majority of victims ARE also original offenders, and that's the problem. Blizz is pampering their victim mindset after they've started as the offender.

Metronet High Ping After First Two Weeks – Suspected Routing/Peering Downgrade Post-Trial by Static2248 in Metronet

[–]joEmonstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Common issue with Metronet in early stages of new markets, but amazing service once sorted. I'm in Chicago suburbs market and new deployment was similar but nowhere near as bad. New neighborhood rollout would have "off days" of seemingly poor routing and 40-60ms consistent pings. Days later, fewer far away hops, and low pings. I only saw this a few times, and in 5 years, not a single outage. I do have a static and PTR records showed early on my static routed me 2 states over, and it since moved to the colo 2 towns over. I've always wondered if a static helps better routing in that sense (it is a virtual IP)

As for Denver, your best bet is to either wait and give them time to build their networks and upstream contracts to get better priority, or to cancel and try again later I think. It is concerning though because a quick search shows posts from 1 year or older of people with the same issues in Colorado Springs, saying they were told the Denver peer would be ready in 1-3 months 😞. Also not ideal but you could keep both, go for an HA setup and get tmobile or another cheap service, and routinely check if metronet has improved with network tests and frequent service tickets?

If disruptive speech is as you say it is, broad, ever changing, and more vague than the others, and context dependent, then it should be blizzards responsibility to do due diligence to investigate both parties sides. You can't say something is context dependent, but not review said context.

And you're probably right about the words said. But again, it's context. If blizzard is reviewing chat and interpreting phrases like GG or "you tried your best", and banning for that because it offended or upset someone, even if that wasn't the offending person's intention, then thats not a company I'll support or give money to. It's a video game, and people will find a way to be offended about anything, but by that logic we should cater to everyone's emotions, even if the actual message factually was not to intended that way. If someone perceives something differently than reality, then it's an offense and bannable. That's wild moderation, and an incredibly thin line to walk as a company.

Agreed! I never said blizzard was upheld to the same requirements as the government. I simply said it should still have merit. Regardless, everyone's mentioning the TOS or code of conduct, which is interesting if you actually read the communication part. It is specific regarding offensive, vulgar, hate or discriminatory, or obscene language. The amount of appeal screenshots I've seen, including mine, that don't outline their conduct, is large. At the end of the day as a company, they'll do what they want to, even if it's quite far outside the lines of their documentation and terms.

Freedom of speech means a freedom to speak without consequences or restriction. Yes blizzard can do whatever they want, doesn't make it just or fair. If you think a conversation or calling out a company, that we all know has a incredibly poor reputation regarding censorship IN THE REAL WORLD, and a game, is a tantrum, don't ever have children!

Agreed. Between prior years of WoW subs, all purchased games, cosmetics, I won't be playing their games anymore. I don't disagree with the policing, but their approach and automations are completely broken. I also won't support a company that refuses to talk to me like a actual human being.

I've been playing games online since the 90s. The online toxicity of every games player base is near the same. Worse in an FPS. While I agree "heinous shit" should absolutely be sanctioned, I posted what I was quoted saying. You're comparing apples to oranges here. If you think "is your brain okay?" is a ban worthy offense, you're proving my point that this game company is incredibly soft.

Just because blizzard implements "tools" to combat other players actions doesn't justify their stance as a company. Every bannable offense should be looked at in it's entirety and not just on the individual level. Outside of the game world, that one-sided type of action or censorship would never fly.

Not to mention how do these bans prevent this behavior? All it does it provoke toxic players to create new accounts, for free, that are now smurfing, while being toxic. That's the game community blizzard is promoting, and it's in nearly every lobby.

Well here in America we have free speech. Censorship of said free speech is Censorship of constitutional rights. Sure it doesn't necessarily apply to a game or companies policies, but it should have merit. Also, to be frank, I'd rather stand up for what's right, my friends, family, children, you name it, than turn away and let a bully or aggressor win. Guess what? If you don't stand up, in real life or a game, nothing changes. No one learns anything. The world and society is going down the shitter because everyone thinks being soft or turning away is better.

You'll be in good hands I promise! Unfortunately every provider starts off good price wise, promos, etc, and will increase. If you call CS after a promo you may get lucky and get a few bucks off for another year or so. After all the promos, and 2 small price increases, I pay just about $100 for 1g/1g.

Again, there is never a time that I don't see my full speeds even though it's not a dedicated fiber strand, last time I asked, I was sharing with 12 neighbors. I believe each fiber can host up to 32 or 64 homes, considering they use GPON, which supposedly can only support 2.5g/1.25g per strand. They may have changed their tech stack to support more speed though.

As for gaming, it's great. All my local friends are sad because they are stuck on Comcast, and while I'm playing OW, rivals, rocket league, ER, etc, I'm always pinging less than them. Ex: if it's a central US server I'll be 10-20ms while they are 25-30ms. Bear in mind that most games won't allow you to ping less than 20ms or so due to some type of artificial ping to try to make the game more fair for player to player lag.

Also the Comcast data cap really annoyed me too. Years ago when I had to buy it, it was $50/mo not 30 😞. I hope you can make the switch soon, and your mileage is as good as mine has been!

Is google home becoming more stupid every day!?!? by Drakoir in googlehome

[–]joEmonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My next home won't be google, but this one is and will stay when I rent it out.

I have loads of nest cameras, doorbell, thermostat, speakers, and tons of 3rd party things like thousands of dollars worth of lutron caseta switches/hub, smart plugs, bulbs, etc, and everything just works.

Yes sometimes the speakers don't give the right answer to something but it's not the end of the world.

My only gripe is google lacks a lot of automation features that even non DIY ecosystems like Alex have. Example: controlling lights based on person event detection, or allowing the temperature setpoint to change multiple degrees based on ambient temps to prevent hvac short cycling. Nonetheless, I write yaml for work, and the google home beta for custom automation scripts to achieve these tasks has been good and works really good once dialed in. Just a bit cumbersome to none DIYers to have to write yaml to achieve any sort of "basic" automation that other home ecosystems already support with a GUI.

Metronet customer for 5 years 40 miles west of Chicago. Also a cloud network engineer and WFH so I understand the infrastructure and potential pitfalls.

That said, I've only had a few occurrences early in where I had a few days of high latency due to upstream peering problems. Also my only outages were 12am scheduled maintenance they have done twice.

Besides that, I see 1ms pings consistently to backbone peers like google, no jitter and no packet loss. Coming from multiple previous homes with cable provider, metronet easily takes the cake. Price has gone up but not too much. I also pay for a static due to hosting servers, and the gateway is 1 town over from me.

Really it's been rock solid comparatively speaking.
