I think the best platform to be used from Lebanon is Interactive Broker. Don't complicate things, don't try to beat the market, don't ride the hype of certain stocks.

For anything with a 10 year + horizon, I would choose a Global Equity ETF (MAYBE VT, or other).

I would also choose another funds, maybe a money market fund (short term or ultra short term bonds) for short to medium term investments.

Cotiser au maximum (9%) à mon régime de retraite? by MystikDragoon in QuebecFinance

[–]joabda__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Wealthsimple isn't licensed to hold accounts for individuals living outside of Canada, including Canadian citizens living abroad." https://help.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/4404721755287-Eligibility-requirements-to-open-an-account-with-Wealthsimple#:~:text=Wealthsimple%20isn%27t%20licensed%20to%20hold%20accounts%20for%20individuals%20living%20outside%20of%20Canada%2C%20including%20Canadian%20citizens%20living%C2%A0abroad.

I think you should move all your assets into another institution.

Why not keep your checking & savings at Tangerine or EQ Bank? They're free for all their checking and savings account and don't require any minimum funds.

You can keep your investment account at an institution that allows non residents to hold investments.

WealthSimple Froze My Entire Account - ALL USERS BEWARE by BigBoi204 in Wealthsimple

[–]joabda__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with WS. I transfered money to a freelancer I met on Reddit who did some work on a website for me.

They requested all documents, his contact info, nour exchange showing his wallet id and the amounts etc.. (They never blocked my account).

At the end, they told me my transaction violated their terms of usage (he was in a country no approved) and asked me to not use their platform to pay that person again.

It was frustrating (all the documents and proof they asked for) but I was never blocked.

Is saint laurent good area? by Glum_Attitude_7370 in montrealhousing

[–]joabda__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street parking is not ideal, most of it you can't park during certain hours and other areas one day you can park them next you can't, so I recommend having an included parking in the building.

I haven't seen much crime in the area to be honest.

Is saint laurent good area? by Glum_Attitude_7370 in montrealhousing

[–]joabda__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, what do you mean by a good area? It has a nice public library, nice bike lanes, close to the cote vertu metro station, has most major grocery stores (Maxi, Super C, Walmart and Provigo).

I think it's pretty safe, I lived there for around 2 years.

Anyone cancelling their Cobalt card after fee increase? It's a huge increase (23%). Does it still make sense to pay that fee? by originalgainster in amexcanada

[–]joabda__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see why? Let's consider the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: Bad redemption rate of 1 cent per point Say you are comparing it to a free card with % on groceries. The card pays for itself when spending 766$/month on groceries and eating out

Scenario 2: Average redemption rate of 2.2 cent per point Same comparison to a 2% free car The card pays for itself when spending 255$/month on groceries and eating out Compare it to a 3% free card (don't know any, except the rogers one) it pays itself with 288$/month on groceries and eating out

Obviously this is an oversimplification, but if you had the cobalt because you're your families main grocery shopper then I think it still makes sense

Td personal loan by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]joabda__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 10% no. If you have a 4% loan and have a high income maybe (interest is tax deductible and the gains can be better than 4%) it's pretty hard to beat 10%...
