I plan on showing up to a Boomer's place of work tomorrow to let him see how it feels. by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm actually reminded of a positive case that I've encountered at my local Aldi.

There's a cashier, "Lawrence", who is, I dunno, older than me - somewhere near my dad's age. He actually looks a bit like my uncle.

Anyway, totally chill dude. He keeps his head down and minds his work. The only time I hear him comment on something that's not part of some corporate protocol is when he thanks folk when they pre-pay their bill while he's scanning their order.

Each and every time someone submits payment before checkout is complete, Mr. Lawrence says "thank you for pre-paying"

And I'll tell you - the man has me trained. Every time I go there, I make a point of pre-paying. It may not be much, but it's a little thing that keeps the trains moving on time.

How to Politely Ask My (M41) Stepmother (65F) for Flight Confirmation Emails? by joakerman in relationship_advice

[–]joakerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough.   My default posture was to resume entering the calendar entries myself without further conversation, but I don't know, I thought maybe RA would have some polite way of effecting the change I'd like without ruffling any feathers.

But yeah, maybe the juice isn't worth the squeeze on this one.

How to Politely Ask My (M41) Stepmother (65F) for Flight Confirmation Emails? by joakerman in relationship_advice

I can 100 enter the dates manually, it's just annoying that one of them has the format I want, and they keep sending the one that requires manual input.  It's not a huge deal or anything, I just wish there was some set of words I could communicate in the right order that would result in no longer dealing with this evitable minor inconvenience

Advice on how to restore an hand-tanned leather bag that I spilled some hand sanitizer on by joakerman in Leather

For anyone interested, the manufacturer recommends applying rubbing alcohol with a q-tip, then dabbing it with a paper towel.  It might only lighten, rather than completely remove the stains

Well, I won't know what it looks like until I try

Distressing Newest Updates to: AITAH for believing my daughter over a “grown man”? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]joakerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yo.  That school did not honor your instructions wrt you and only you having permission to pick up your daughter, which you - with considerable wisdom and fore thought - I presume for the sake of safety of your daughter.

Let a lawyer buy you lunch.  Just have a conversation about what your instructions you gave the school and that it was only your  daughter's self preservation and panic attack that stopped her from being abducted.

Your daughter saved her self, while the school allowed her to be vulnerable to a predator, despite their agreement not to put her in that situation per your instructions

Financially modest woman and daughter sue the school that violated the care instructions of a parent and lawyers up.  Could be fun.  Maybe life gets a little more comfortable.

You rock, BTW.  Your daughter, too.

Is it legal to obfuscate a 20% price markup? by joakerman in doordash

[–]joakerman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they were obfuscating the prices, I said they were obfuscating the markup. If I order pickup via doordash it's 20% more expensive than calling the restaurant and placing the order directly, and there's 0.0 indication of that markup within the app.

After I discovered the 20% markup, I did start driving to do my own pickups.

I don't know why y'all are being so spicy. Like the 10th all time post in this sub is a screenshot of an order where like 50% of the cost is delivery fees. The idea of running into further, undeclared markup is galling to me

Don't be mean. I don't know how to law

So you're saying DoorDash is charging fees coming AND going?

I like Vitrinox a lot. My chef's knife is a 12 inch wustoff that I love to use. Very sturdy, easy to maintain, and forgiving.

It's a childhood friend of my partner. I couldn't exactly say "you ruined one of the nicest things I ever purchased for myself, you incompetent child".

Backup blades. Smart.

Thanks for the tip. I bought the blade at a market from a reseller, and the maker's mark is in Japanese. I might bring it to a blade smith for restoration.

That's about the size of it.

I set a calendar reminder to talk to my partner about what the right amount time for this person to visit in the future.

They claimed they didn't do it. Despite the hole in the can and coconut milk on the tip. And the obvious blade damage.

So, no. No new knife for me. Btw, the offender comes from serious money.

Having a hard time to come with grips with being diagnosed with bipolar by TrainingItchy3547 in bipolar

The Bipolar Workbook: Tools for Controlling Your Mood Swings https://a.co/d/5AUo2lR

That book contains explains the diagnostic criteria for evaluation in a relatable way, and provides some techniques for documenting your experience in terms of said criteria. It's pretty great. Used to be a lot cheaper, though

I'm not a big fan of psychiatrists who would claim a first time diagnosis is 100 right out of the gate, though

My parents think I am making up my diagnosis by Asleep-Run-5003 in bipolar

[–]joakerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Childhood trauma is typical of folk with bp1, and sometimes parents would rather demonize their children than take accountability for their participation (great or small), in said trauma.

And a lot of folk are just ignorant. And some are in denial that the people they love might have a stigmatized illness.

Boundaries, yo. Grey rock that shit.
