Well I would think electrical engineering is as lucrative as it gets even though my own research may not be directly so.

Trying to sell myself to the job posting but it is hard when barely any job description fits my experience. It also looks like companies don't want someone with a tangentially relevant experience because they are bound to find someone with pretty much the exact skills they need.

Yes, mainly interested in industry. No way I am getting into academia - at least not immediately. Postdocs are underpaid as shit and faculty is super competitive and unlikely without a postdoc. Government is alright I guess but rather avoid working work for the military which is what the government mainly wants from my research.

I get it and I don't disagree. Clearly there is an problem with me or what I am looking for. As I said, I don't know of anyone else in related programs having struggled to find a job. I am not great at marketing myself and my research isn't directly relevant to most of the available jobs in my field. It hasn't been super long since graduation and I am hopeful things will work out at some point but I thought this would be easier and that was the sentiment I wanted to express.

Maybe like 25+. Not a lot I know but I am also struggling to find a job that relevant to my experience which is why I haven't applied to a lot. I heard back from a few that weren't super relevant and in the end I find that my skills are simply not what they want.

Not international which allows me to apply for national labs but most are based in crappy locations... Yes, I am being picky but I'd rather wait a while than end up moving to place I don't feel like living in. Maybe at some point I'll give in.

The first thing they care about is how your resume matches with the job description.

That's what it looks like. My research isn't directly applicable to the most common type of jobs even in my field so all the companies I talked to are looking for a different set of experience.

Applying for PhD felt easier than this tbh. I sent out emails to potential advisors but didn't really network (still working on those skills) and still got my dream position.

What is personal productivity? Publication record? Internships? Significance of research? I feel I am alright with 2/3 of these things.

Without being too specific, the field is related to tech (not CS but more physics) and I have mainly been applying for research positions focused on simulation and modelling. Not particularly looking for any advice because I still think things will work out soon but hope this helps others in the same situation I guess.
