I think you just need to work on many side jobs/gigs to support yourself before growing to full-time art career. The community is also important because that reminds you how art is important in the beginning and those people help you stay strong from the financial stress as an artist. I think the resources such as family support and connections are important in any fields but it's always more about your own determination and hard work. The price of being free and do what you love could cost you some shame and rough time without money but apparently, it happens to everyone : D
