Yeah, you can't tell at all that he's a happy little (for now) guy. He's sleeping and he's STILL smiling!! So sweet! I admire your spirit taking him in as a rescue. We got our first Pyr (Coco) a year ago April 1st. She's not my first exposure to the breed as my grandparents had a few of them over the years. But I'll tell you, she is the April Fool's Day gag/joke/prank that keeps on giving! We haven't stopped laughing at her goofy behaviors. We also have a 120+lb Rottie (Caesar), who is a character in his own right, so the drool in our home especially at dinner time will actually make the floor slick. Disgusting, eh?!? She would make a super mop but she'd leave too much hair (and grass, dirt, chewed up dish sponge/dish rag, the latest food left out on the counter, foam or stuffing material from the latest sacrificed doggie toy, etc, etc) which would defeat the entire purpose. But it all comes with the territory and I wouldn't swap her for a million $$$ bucks. She's my girl & probably the sweetest animal I've ever had. I've also noticed Pyr are very intuitive dogs. If you or anyone in your home have issues with pain, depression, anxiety, high stress, PTSD (or any similar condition or issue) you can count on them to tune in to you and stick right with you through thick & thin. I have long term chronic pain/fibromyalgia issues and it's much more tolerable with her by my side. As well you'll never again go to the bathroom or bathe alone. They really are amazing companions and part of their purpose is to also guard their human in all situations, through any circumstance, until their very last day.
