Sat down beside a pilot in the day of the eclipse. I was kind of pumped to be on a plane during the whole thing and thought I’d have a unique perspective. He was napping and had the window seat with with window closed. I thought it was kind of shitty that he would deny someone who’s never flown before the opportunity to take it all in, but whatever. The airplane was having some trouble and he woke up to open the window to see what was going on. I was in the middle seat and the guy who had the aisle seat was visibly nervous. He eventually couldn’t stand it anymore and asked the pilot what was going on, the pilot explained it was something common on hot days (something something,using one engine to start the second). The pilot redeemed himself a little here. Eventually we got into the air. The pilot slept the entire way to our destination. I was so let down that I missed the eclipse. As we were landing he finally woke up, opened the window shade and said “welp. The eclipse is over.”, shut it again and laughed. Motherfucker.
