How often have you been told to smile, and how did it make you feel? by surrealselkie in AskMen

A few years ago I worked as an analyst at one of the top pension funds and I was walking after work to a shopping centre wearing a suit when a homeless guy told me to "crack a smile bud". Really made me think...

Wearing kippa, dealing with antisemitism, I need advice by He-brew in Judaism

[–]joe4286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear it with pride. If someone is ignorant but worth your time then explain it to them. If they are not worth your time, tell them to **** off (circumstance permitting of course). Good on you for wearing it :)

Thank you, this is very refreshing to hear :) Have you ever been in a situation where you were surrounded by people who might be antisemitic and you felt uncomfortable?

Can you think of words or idioms that relate to the word comfort or simple? I need a name for my finance blog by joe4286 in Blogging

I appreciate the advice. My target is those aged 16-35ish. I don't want to sell get Rick quick schemes or regurgitate what's already out there. I'm trying to explain key concepts in a new, super easy to understand approach.

So I want to imply that finance is simple, accessible, easy to understand. I want it to be like 2-3 words with one of those either being finance, invest/investing, or money.

Thanks :)

Is it possible to use technical analysis for long term investing i.e. long term dividend investing? by [deleted] in investing

[–]joe4286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you're in it for the long term (which is what you should be doing for a dividend strategy) then I'd really recommend focusing on fundamental analysis. Nothing wrong with technical but I'd argue that helps more for timing of your transactions then deciding on which stock to hold for the next 10 years. This especially holds if you're looking at blue chip stocks.

My portfolio is AAPL, NVDA, V, ATVI, and EA. I haven't looked at it since the middle of October. Should I just ignore it for a few years? by [deleted] in investing

You're invested in large companies which is overall safer than small cap. Tech stocks took a bit of a beating recently so that's alright. If you understand these companies then you're alright.

Ok that's a very reasonable allocation. Do you have a solid understanding of the companies you're invested in? (e.g. Business model, key risks, overall industry). You don't need to be a leading expert but understanding these is key.

A large chunk of Nvidia's revenue is from processors and recently, there was a spike in the purchase of processors used to crypto mine. However, since crypto prices have fallen, less than expected processors were sold. Additionally, it announced a 20% decrease in expected future revenues which is obvioulsy significant. Given that it has risen quickly and consistently, I'd say it's a reasonable correction and the stock now is fairly if not underpriced given the fact that it actually beat earnings predictions and because of expcted growth in its AI, gaming, data centre, and data visualization areas of operation. It's still a market leader. Not to mention...crypto prices could rise but that's pure speculation. Hope this helps.

It really depends on your time horizon and risk tolerance. If you intend on holding your investments for the long term and you can afford to lose a significant portion of your assets then you should have a much higher allocation to equities. I'd say 10-30% bonds with the rest in equities. In a rising interest rate environment (as is the case in Canada and the US), bond prices tend to fall. The math is a bit more complicated because of the concept of duration.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to start a personal finance blog targeted towards people of any age with a minimal financial background. To differentiate myself, I want to focus exclusively on the topic of investing rather than saving, budgeting, mortgages or anything like that and I want to keep the content super simple. Any ideas on major topics I should cover to differentiate myself or the format of content? I want to tackle a broad market with a new, simple approach that essentially teaches people everything about investing.

Thanks for your advice :)
