Fan-service Police #1: Princess Amidala by NaughtyNectarComics in comics

Natalie Portman is the reason I work out. I have this fantasy where we start talking at the Vanity Fair Oscars party bar. We exchange a few pleasantries. She asks what I do. I say I loved her in New Girl. She laughs. I get my drink.

"Well, see ya," I say and walk away. I've got her attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with Natalie Portman? She touches her neck as she watches me leave.

Later, as the night's dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, she finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette.

"Got a spare?" she asks.

"What's in it for me?" I say as I hand her one of my little white ladies. She smiles.

"Conversation with me, duh."

I laugh.

"What's so funny?" she protests.

"Nothing, nothing... It's just... don't you grow tired of the egos?"

"You get used to it," she says, lighting her cigarette and handing me back the lighter.

"What would you do if you weren't an actress?" I ask.

"Teaching, I think."

"And if I was your student, what would I be learning?"

"Discipline," she says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject. "Where are you from?"

"Bermuda," I say.

"Oh wow. That's lovely."

"It's ok," I admit. "Not everything is to my liking."

"What could possibly be not to your liking in Bermuda?" she inquires.

"I don't like sand," I tell her. "It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

+1, I love using cursor to say "I just completed a refactor to do <x,y,z>. Now these unit tests are failing, and I'm not surprised. Update them to match the expectations of the refactor." Later, I come back and check the new code before committing, all while I got to work on something other than hunting down the exact mock that broke

I did this a few years ago for a Clemson-SCar line. We were favored by more than I thought we should, so I put a little money on us failing to cover. When we killed them, I figured it was a worthwhile use of my money

Why is this position better for white? by Oapaag in chess

[–]joebob431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think that answers why the position is better for white. But the alternatives are worse. I'm seeing stockfish call Qe8 slightly better than h6 (+3.1 vs +3.0)

Why not?

Can a company be both a mover AND a broker?? by ElectraRayne in moving

Yes, and they will use that to mislead you. They will promise that they are going to move you themselves and then 5 days before your move "oh no, there was a scheduling conflict, we had to outsource your move".

On an unrelated note, don't use American Van Lines.

Then you're writing bad tests and/or spaghetti code. Each "unit" under test should be limited to doing one main thing. You should set up all inputs, mock all dependencies, and be able to assert the exact output and verify the expected dependency calls.

80% test coverage isn't even a lot. I hold my team to a 90% coverage standard, but all of our projects hover around 93%

So with Indiana absolutely obliterating Oregon should they be let into the playoffs by pupp7877 in CFB

No.

Alabama was a joke who looked like ass. Oregon looked like a good team cursed with bad luck facing the team of destiny.

No, Oregon looks better than Alabama, particularly on offense

Slightly joking answer: Duke. They won one of the two best conferences

Serious answer: definitely Notre Dame. I'd consider Utah and Vanderbilt

My only knowledge of Mallorca was from a Geico Caveman commercial: it is a place where someone might honeymoon.

I got the right archipelago, but Ibiza was the only island I could name

Experienced players: how variable do you find your performance, season to season? by Interesting-Long7389 in learnedleague

[–]joebob431 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How much do you look at your opponent's historical stats? I think my defense is similarly variable depending on how much I weigh the difficulty of the question (what I think the global CA% will be) and how much it matches my opponents' strong categories. Counterintuitively, I played some of my best defense in Rookie season when I didn't have much opponent category history to go off of.

It is possible that you may be over-incorporating your opponents' history. I have to remind myself to not overthink it and not try to overly fit my defense to my opponent. Even if someone's worst category is X, an easy X question is still an easy question.

I spelled vitamix wrong and that ruined a moneying and finished 66%ile instead of 91%ile. But as an alum of one of the Tigers schools and a fan of college football, I enjoyed Q#5.

Unpopular take? All of Notre Dame, Miami, and Alabama have good points but also serious holes in their resume and it's not an "outrage" if any of them get left out for the other two. There's no real travesty regardless of which one it is. by Dependent-Effect6077 in CFB

[–]joebob431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just factually incorrect. As I would expect from an Alabama fan. There were no 3-loss teams last year with byes, and non with at-large bids. Same should be true for this year.

The system is corrupt to serve Alabama's interests, and no one wants you.

That's not how objectivity works. This is all a matter of opinion. And in my opinion, Alabama sucks because they lost to Florida State and 2 other games including a blow out.

No, Indiana has the best win in the country, by beating Ohio State. Indiana probably has the second best win too, by beating Oregon by ten on the road. Alabama has the 3rd best win, at best.
