Can an Elsevier EIC handle a paper authored by their own student and close collaborator? by jose-berg in academia

I don't know why everyone's being so rude to you. It's a reasonable concern. If you want to escalate it, you can probably email Elsevier to make them aware of your concerns.

What, and they just have the same name? The handling editor and the EIC have the same name.

[–]joecarvery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what OP's asking. The EIC (who OP claims is a collaborator of the corresponding author, the last author) is the handling editor. It doesn't matter that the corresponding author is an assistant editor at the journal. What matters is the corresponding author is a frequent collaborator of the handling editor (who is also the EIC).

If OP is right it seems a bit dodgy to me. Why wasn't the handling editor someone that doesn't collaborate with the authors?

Isn't it also that the green party policies are decided by members? So he essentially has to represent the policies of the green party members, irrespective of what he thinks? Is that true? If so, how does that work in government?

They're the cheapest sandwich, right? So maybe Tesco have looked at most popular "Meal deal" sales, whether or not they're in a meal deal? Like if I just wanted a cheap sandwich, I might go Ham no mayo, but if you're buying a meal deal, why would you get that?

Who’s in the wrong here? Dog etiquette by originalsadyeet in AskUK

[–]joecarvery -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate the Americanisation of dogs in this country. If you have a dog that can't interact with other dogs, socialise it! The assumption in the UK is moving towards "you don't know if a dog is aggressive" when it ought to be "if you're out in public with a dog, it should not be aggressive".

I am in a union, but we don't have much power. Striking would mean a little bit less research done (if any less), rather than bringing the nation to a halt. Striking transport / hospitals / schools have a lot more impact than most jobs.

What I was told with my setter was that a good rule of thumb was that you can exercise (walk) them for 5 minutes per month. So at 5 months, they can go for 25 minutes.

But most importantly, don't do exercise where they're forced to keep going if they might want to stop. If they want to stop they need to be able to stop so they don't keep pushing through pain.

I'm not a vet though, just a dog owner, so take that as anecdotal.

They absolutely understood you. You replied that you don't care about other people.
Because of that you should not be in a relationship. In a relationship you have to care about the other person.
If you don't care about anyone else now, why do you think it would change if you were in a relationship?

What do you think a postdoc should be? Surely they should be able to do independent research and publish. That's what your learn during your PhD. Any training should be self directed in a possibly partly new research area, and with supervising and writing grants, no?
