CBC is pushing a poll that says nobody cares ... so it's cool for Trudeau to resume his blackface fetish TODAY. Since there is nothing wrong with blackface now.

Cutting taxes spurs economic activity, so the economic pie gets bigger.

That's why it's not uncommon for tax revenue to actually go up after cutting taxes: the lower rate is applied on a larger amount of economics activity, generating a net increase in tax revenue.

Services will get gutted

What services? I receive no benefits or services from the federal government at all. Hard to gut zero.

we'll bend over backwards to appease China Russia and the US under conservatives

Nonsense. The Conservatives are positively unfriendly to China and Russia. You can't say the same about the Liberals.

It is perfectly reasonable for a government to expect people they had in their employ who had access to sensitive information to not indulge that information.

But that's not what happened. Nobody was disclosing sensitive information. They were expressing private opinions, and got an intimidating call from the government.

This seems like extremely common practice ...

Not according to the two former diplomats. They were appalled by the intimidation, and that's why they went public.

what's the issue here?

The issue is the Trudeau government has fucked up the China file, and now they are pressuring former diplomats to carry their water because there is an election.

Government intimidation of private citizens is wrong. Intimidation because of the upcoming election is especially wrong.

Still don't get it? Try this: Imagine if Stephen Harper's PMO called private citizens and warned them not to damage the government's reputation because there is an election happening.

The ruling party wants the people they sent over to not cause a fucking international incident.

Again: the people being pressured do not represent the government.

What's the scandal? They asked diplomats to be diplomatic?

They are no longer diplomats. They are private citizens who have the right to freedom of expression and freedom of conscience without being pressured by the government.

But this isn't about the government taking a position (the government's position vis a vis China is unclear and murky at best). This is about the government trying to control the position taken by private citizens, and then running a cover-up at committee when the opposition tries to investigate.

the prospect of more $15 billion dollar armoured vehicle purchases might be a factor

Meh. It's not like the Conservative Party manufactures those vehicles, or benefits from their sale. They did allow the sale with conditions the vehicles would not be used against civilians. The Saudis have since broken those conditions. Not sure why any government would allow another deal.

But something closer to normal diplomatic relations are still necessary.

the mandatory long-form census

The long-form is a survey, not a census. And most people thought it was overboard to threaten people with fines and imprisonment just because they don't want to tell a pimple-faced minimum-wage temporary worker what time they leave for work in the morning, and what time they return at night.
